                                         JOB DESCRIPTION



POST TITLE:                       Administrative Assistant/Helpline Worker.

SECTION:                          Warrington and Halton Joint Parent Partnership Service.

SCALE:                            3/4

RESPONSIBLE TO:                   Parent Partnership Officer.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:            Parents, schools, education team members, officers within the
                                  Council, Health and Social Services staff and other appropriate
                                  services and organisations, including voluntary.


PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POST:

1.   To provide a senior administrative function to support the work of the Parent Partnership Service.

2.   To manage the helpline and respond to parents, colleagues, other service and organisation staff,
     ensuring information is logged and enquiries passed on.

3.   To work independently.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.   Staff the helpline and respond sensitively to parental enquiries, record information accurately and
     maintain a high level of confidentiality.

2.   Respond to routine and more complex enquiries using discretion in forming responses providing
     information within the remit of Parent Partnership work and ensuring it is consistent with agreed
     policies and procedures.

3.   To be responsible for maintaining a library of Parent Partnership resources and equipment. To
     undertake regular reviews of the service resources and update information. To be responsible for
     the loan and return of resources.

4.   Research areas of work, including using the Internet to obtain, collate and present information in an
     acceptable format for parents and professionals.

5.   To gain a good working knowledge of SEN legislation and Council policies and processes for
     Warrington and Halton Borough Councils.

6.   Assist in the design, development, monitoring and maintenance of recording/filing systems to
     ensure the continuing high quality of the service.

7.   Undertake design and production of service documents and newsletters, using appropriate ICT
     skills.
8.    Undertake photocopying, collating and filing, including the creation of new filing systems.

9.    To liaise with colleagues, to check and process database information in order to ensure accurate
      records are maintained.

10.   To order equipment and resources and to liaise with colleagues in the monitoring of the service
      budget in conjunction with the Parent Partnership Officer.
