When Will My Teeth Fall Out?
Your body knows the exact time your teeth should fall out. So if your friends have lost lots of teeth don’t worry, it will happen to you on your special day too. To help you know when to expect a new tooth read the following story.
Everyone gets two sets of teeth as they grow up. The first set we call primary or baby teeth. They get that name because you get primary teeth when you are a baby. By 2 years old most children have all 20 primary teeth. The second set we call permanent teeth. Starting around 5 or 6 years old, you may get your first permanent teeth. It takes until you are 21 years old for all 32 permanent teeth to grow in. So you can see losing and growing new teeth is something your body does for a long time, like growing taller. Primary Teeth

Around 6 years old you will feel one of your front teeth getting loose. Your permanent tooth is now big enough to replace the primary tooth. For the permanent tooth to grow in, it dissolves the roots of the baby tooth. Then the baby tooth will fall out. After the permanent tooth pushes out the baby tooth, it will appear in its place. Sometimes the permanent tooth will grow right behind the baby tooth. Then your tongue will help guide your new tooth into the right place.
Also around 6 or 7 years old you will start to get your first permanent molars. They will appear in your mouth behind your primary teeth, two on each side. You will have 4 new molars, 2 on the top and two on the bottom. Then you will have 24 teeth in your mouth. Remember everyone looses and gets teeth at different times.
When around 12 or 13 years old your second set of molars will grow in and you will have 28 teeth. Finally around 21 years old your third set of molars will grow in and you will have all 32 teeth. Third molars are also called “wisdom teeth”.
