H. J. Heinz Company Foundation Grant Application Information The H. J. Heinz Company Foundation was established in 1951 to make contributions to further the public welfare. Funded each year by the H. J. Heinz Company, the H. J. Heinz Company Foundation is committed to promoting the health and nutritional needs of children and families. Priority is given to programs in communities where Heinz operates with a special focus given to southwestern Pennsylvania. The Foundation proactively donates funds to develop and strengthen organizations that are dedicated to nutrition and nutritional education, youth services and education, diversity, healthy children and families, and quality of life. The Foundation supports socially responsible endeavors and encourages Heinz employees to participate in voluntary activities in support of charitable organizations. The Foundation gives priority to applications falling into its major program areas, including: Nutrition – Promoting improvements in and a better understanding of good nutrition, and contributing to the health and well being of people and communities. • Youth and Education – Supporting the positive development of children and youth by strengthening systems that affect learning and by sustaining programs that supplement the formal education process. • Diversity – Promoting the advancement of minority populations and women, with focus on development opportunities for girls and minority youth. • Healthy Children and Families – Improving the overall well-being of people by ensuring children and families have the resources and services necessary to help them live healthy and happy lives. • Quality of Life – Promoting programs that support and add to the quality of our communities including increased accessibility for low-income and disadvantaged individuals through art, cultural, educational and outreach programs. The Foundation considers requests from eligible organizations that fall within the described areas of interest. Organizations should indicate how their proposed project fits the areas of interest. Generally, the Foundation does not make loans and does not provide grants for individuals, equipment, conferences, travel, general scholarships, religious programs, political campaigns, and unsolicited research projects. Grants are typically awarded in areas where the H. J. Heinz Company has significant operations. Only organizations that have 501(c)(3) tax status under the • U.S. Internal Revenue Code are eligible for support domestically. International organizations are encouraged to submit a letter of inquiry prior to preparing a full proposal to determine eligibility. International organizations will need to provide a 501(c) (3) determination letter from the United States Internal Revenue Service or sufficient documentation to demonstrate that the non-U.S. grantee is the equivalent of a U.S. public charity. Documentation should be provided in English. The organization must be able to demonstrate plans to continue the project after the grant funds end. The organization must provide reports on the use of grant funds. Issuance of a grant is a discrete event and does not reflect continuing support for the organization. The following information should be included in funding proposals. (The Foundation will also accept proposals in the Common Grant Application Format.) All proposals must be submitted in writing.
