This session will be followed by discounted fitness training classes, free, limited-time gym memberships and personal e-mail encouragement from trainer DiDio. “Living on diet soda and coffee, over-tanning and killing yourself on the treadmill” says DiDio, “This is often the „fitness regimen‟ for prepping for prom. „Get Fit for Prom‟ offers a healthy new alternative for this vulnerable population for whom body issues and being thin are so critical.” Each Saturday during the six weeks, PFX will also offer “psych” sessions on nutrition, skin and hair care, and even how to manage mothers during the process! In addition to teaching girls sustainable habits they can use to get and stay in shape, DiDio is also giving this population another avenue to positive self-esteem: public service. “Operation Fairy Dust provides such a valuable service to disadvantaged young women in the area,” continues DiDio, “Get Fit for Prom‟ participants will feel such a thrill to help others‟ prom dreams come true as well as their own.” To participate in “Get Fit for Prom,” area teens are asked to come to the April 21 kick-off event and commit to the 6-week program as well as donate any gently worn formal attire or accessories they or their friends and family may have at home. A gift bag with offers and goods from area merchants will be given to each teen attending the program, and additional merchandise from area businesses will be donated to Operation Fairy Dust.
