OCEAN OVERWASH EXPECTED AT TIMES OF HIGH TIDE IN NORTH RODANTHE; TRAVEL DELAYS ANTICIPATED
Astronomical tides have caused recent periods of ocean overwash along Highway 12 in north Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. For the next several days, ocean overwash has the potential to close the roadway in this particular area for short periods until the tide recedes and the road can be cleared of sand and water. High tide will occur around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and around 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. If possible, residents and visitors are asked to plan travel to avoid this area of Highway 12 during periods of high tide. For updated road conditions, call the Dare County Communications Division non-emergency phone line at 473-3444.
