Social Calendar

Thursday, April 18 – Brothers Brent Wiseman, Mike Dolan, and David Watson invite you to join them
as their guest at the Afton Tavern, 355 John Galt Way NW, in Concord, North Carolina, 7 pm. Casual
attire and spouses and dates are welcome. Light food and beverages are included.

Thursday, May 23 – Brother Alan Simonini invites you a casual social starting at 7 pm, at the model
home for Charndon Village, corner of Boyce and Sardis Roads in southeast Charlotte. Click here to visit

NC Beta News (UNC Charlotte) -

The chapter was awarded the SAE Province Omicron Zeal Award on Saturday, Feb 23, 2013, recognizing
it as the most outstanding chapter in North Carolina. The Tri Province Leadership School, including
chapters from NC, SC, VA, GA and TN, was hosted by the chapter at UNC-Charlotte. In addition, the
chapter won the Province Song Competition Award on Friday, Feb 22. In other news, the chapter placed
1st in IFC grades for the fall semester, was above the all-campus GPA, and became the largest fraternity

NC Theta News (Davidson) –

The chapter’s average GPA (grade point ratio) continued to be among the best on campus among
fraternities, with a 3.1 overall. A new eminent archon was elected – Sam Gray, email

NC Delta Chapter Closed

The NC Delta Chapter at UNC Wilmington was closed by the administration and SAE National effective
Friday, Feb 7, 2013. Founded in 1981, the chapter was charged with various university policy violations
and had already been on probation. UNCW indicated that SAE can recolonize in 2015.

Elon University Interest Group

During the Tri Province Leadership School at UNC Charlotte Feb 22-23, we hosted an” interest group” of
students from Elon University that might be interested in affiliation with SAE. Elon’s Greek Community
(visit their web site here) is very strong with 8 national IFC chapters. SAE has tried for a decade to
colonize at Elon, and this could be the opportunity we are waiting for. More details later as we see if SAE

Alumnus Running for Supreme Council

                      SAE will have its bi annual convention this summer (2013) in Chicago, June 29-July
                      1. Brother Mike Corelli, Province Omicron Archon, has announced his campaign to
                      run for the Eminent Supreme Chronicler position on the Supreme Council. He was
                      Eminent Archon of his Illinois Gamma Chapter, and serves as the Associate
                      Director of Leadership Programs and Director of the Office of Leadership and
                      Student Involvement at Western Carolina University. Visit his FACEBOOK Page to

                            Townes Moser, ’10 NC Delta/UNCW, has opened a business called Discover
                            Lenny Boy in Charlotte, 2224 Hawkins Street. His mission is to provide the
                            highest quality raw, local Kombucha to whomever so chooses to take a sip in
                            the Carolinas. Lenny Boy was created through an interest in a healthy
                            lifestyle, a passion for fermentation and an obsession with Kombucha Tea.
                            Townes is the owner and Master Brewer. His email is
                            Peter Pappas ’82 NC Alpha/NCSU, was featured in a recent article in the
                            Observer. He is a real estate developer who built his brand creating high-end
                            master-planned communities and mixed-use projects centered on luxury
                            condominiums. Started in 1999, Pappas Properties has specialized in
                            building mixed-use projects centered around high-end condos and luxury
                            retail. They include the award-winning Nantucket-themed Birkdale Village in
                            Huntersville that mixes homes with shopping and dining, and Phillips Place
                            in SouthPark, where luxury retail, high-end restaurants and residences are

Alumni Notes

Brother Matthew Jordan, '03 NC Epsilon/ASU, has joined the Duke Energy Corporation as an IT Project
Manager. Matt was one of the original founders of NC Epsilon in 1999. He is married to Anna and resides
in Kannapolis.

Bob Cauthen, ’71 SC Gamma/Wofford, president and general manager of Southern Coastal Marketing
Services in Pineville. SCMS has been a Broadcast Equipment Solutions provider for 36 years. It is a
privately held company that started in Pineville, North Carolina, in 1976. SCMS Inc has been a family
owned and operated company that continues to provide solutions for Radio and TV stations around the
world by partnering with leading manufacturers

Andy Howe, ’81 AZ Beta/Arizona State, is a financial solutions representative with GCG Wealth
Management, Inc. Andy studied at Western Michigan University and Arizona State University where he
graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Marketing Degree. Andy has been associated with GCG Wealth
Management since 1994 and is a veteran in the life insurance and financial services industry. Andy is a
member of NAIFA, MDRT, Court of the Table and has been recognized for being a leader in his field,

National News

Registration for the 78th John O. Moseley Leadership School is now in the normal registration period.
The event will take place August 5-9, 2013, on board Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas. Click HERE
for more information on the event and to access registration. This normal registration period runs
through April 3 at a cost of $600 per delegate. In advance of the digital release of The Phi Alpha
convention publication, two new pieces of information have become available. The Fraternity Laws
committee has compiled a master list of Fraternity Laws proposals that alumni and collegiate members

mileage-fund chart for chapters is available to assist undergraduate delegates in budgeting for their

Early-bird registration for our 157th Anniversary Convention runs through April 15, 2013. The cost
during this period is $400 for collegiate delegates and $450 for alumni delegates. You can find the online

In conjunction with Global Youth Service Day, our True Gentleman Day of Service will be held April 26-
28, 2013. We encourage our groups to perform any service or philanthropic event supporting any
organization or people during that weekend. In order to help document the weekend and let us know
about the good deed, we encourage participating groups to complete our Day of Service Commitment
