Buying a car is a big decision. There are many things that you need to think about in the
process of buying a car. What style of car do you want to buy? How much do you want
to pay? What features are most important? What color do you want?
However, one question that often is not given enough thought is, “Do I want an
automatic or manual transmission?” The truth is that most people today opt for an
automatic car without even thinking about the pros and cons of manual vehicles. The
market has swayed greatly over the years and it is now dominated by automatic
transmission vehicles.

However, there are still are core group of car enthusiasts that stand by manual vehicles
because of the driving experience and other benefits they offer drivers.

The pros of purchasing a manual vehicle
While many people wouldn’t even consider looking at a manual vehicle as an option,
there are actually many benefits to purchasing a car with a manual transmission. They
include:
    1. Price: It’s a fact that a vehicle with a manual transmission will save the average
person about $1000 off the price of the car. So, if price is a major factor in your
purchase decision, then a manual car might be your best bet.
    2. More fuel efficient: Manual vehicles better utilize gas then automatic cars.
Therefore, while it will still cost the same amount to fill up, your tank of gas will
go a lot further if you have a manual car.
   3. Repair costs: Manual cars are cheaper to maintain over the lifetime of a vehicle.
They also are low maintenance when compares to their automatic counterparts,
      again, saving you money.
   4. A better driving experience: Manual vehicles are known for providing a better
and more engaging driving experience. Since you are shifting the gears, you will
have more control over the car.

The cons of purchasing a manual vehicle

With the good comes the bad. While there are multiple benefits to purchasing a car with
a manual transmission, there are also a number of drawbacks., It is often these
drawbacks that people are not willing to overlook. They include:
   1. A learning process: Most people today do not know how to drive standard.
Therefore, if they were to buy a manual vehicle they would have to invest the
time into learning how to drive it, something most people are not willing to do.
   2. Winter driving: Driving a manual vehicle during the winter can be difficult,
especially if you live in an area that gets a large volume of snow.
   3. Its more work to drive: Most people cannot be bothered to shift gears and
operate the clutch when driving. They are content with putting the car in drive
and letting the car do all the work.

Even though the pros outweigh the cons, it is clear that people prefer automatic
vehicles because they often are easier to drive, do not require a learning curve and are
more convenient to drive.
