The Heart inside of Her
By: Alyssa W.
When I’m with you, I feel what love really is.
It’s standing by my side when no one else will,
Telling me everything will be all right when I’m crying my eyes out,
Calling me to ask how my day went,
Encouraging me, when it seems like no one else cares,
Listening to my problems even though you have friends to see,
Making time for me because I’m important to you,
Knowing that you’re always going to be around when everyone else
leaves.
Love is you comforting me when my family and I get into a fight.
When I feel like quitting everything, you tell me that I can do it.
You show me that I can do whatever I put my mind on and succeed.
You show me what real love is.

Pieces to the Puzzle
By Katie R.
We all want to fit together as if we were pieces to a puzzle
We make one picture from thousands of pieces
We shape ourselves into things we aren’t sometimes
Breaking the puzzle apart
Even when the old piece is much better than the new
There is a need to feel the need to be similar to others
Some will worry they don’t fit into the puzzle
Letting others pressure them into being
something they are not
When there is always a place somewhere to fit in
Instead of trying to fit into places that don’t work
Some pieces are bigger than others
Making a bigger impact
and affecting the pieces all around them
Some are smaller
But affect others all the same
Someone has an empty space that they left open
Ready to impact someone’s life
And we need to leave that empty space open too
To make the puzzle whole

Floating among stars, the clouds and the moon,
Taking a trip to the nearest world, to see what can be seen.
Venturing in places beyond, slipping down a deep black hole,
Into the free fall of the dreaming imagination.
The place in which the loveliest mind of the youngest child goes to rest,
The place in where the pale moon feebly gleams.
The place where the minds of young ones go,
After sleep has overtaken the body.
Riding a silken pillow across the heat stricken deserts,
Soaring through the clouds with a band of angels.
Settling heads upon a velvet pillow of twinkling stars,
For when the dreamer rests her mind,
All worldly thoughts quietly slip away.

I first heard of Ocean Shores when I was 5 years
old watching a TV showed that was based there. I
thought Ocean Shores was going to be and look like
the TV show, but it didn’t, and I was happy because
the TV show didn’t give away what it looked like,
but then I was sad because I was hoping it would

Ocean Shores is a small town past Olympia. The
first time that I went to Ocean Shores was when I 8
years old and I was in the 3rd grade. I went with my

Running From Life
By: Nicola B.
When I feel like my life couldn’t get much worse,
When I feel the lowest of low,
I wish that I could get away from it all.
Get a ride and drive for hours, never wanting to come back,
Drift away into the ocean and not even think about home,
Fly until there’s no more sky left to see.
And I don’t stop to think about who will miss me,
I can convince myself friends and family won’t care much,
That they might even be glad to have me gone.
And even if they do, this is my life
In the end, I need to live the way I want.

Or go to a friend’s house for a shoulder to cry on.
But after I’ve let the frustration out,
And left the place that made me angry for a few hours,
I need to come back home
Come back to my life and the ones that I love,
Remember again who I am and how I live
And I tell myself these things;
I can’t keep running away from my problems.
If I don’t work on them, think them through,
They will always come back- maybe worse than before.
Life isn’t easy for anyone, even if it seems like it sometimes
And what makes it okay is the little things,
When I have a good day, or when I have one of those moments
And realize how grateful I am to have someone I love,
All the happy parts of my life, no matter how small they may be.
Even when the sad times seem to take over,
Running away still wouldn’t change anything.

The Lighthouse
By: Danika G.
The ocean wind whips long stems along the ground,
Sending torrents of ocean spray onto the darkening sand.
The sky, a vast blanket of aching gray,
Covering everything it touches with a hollow shadow.
A storm is brewing in the depths of the horizon.
In the distance a roar mumbles from nowhere,
Sending all creatures out of the area into safer hiding.
The rain now slashing through the sky like daggers,
The angry ocean twirling and crashing in a cruel waltz,
All alone stands the massive tower, protecting all ships at sea.
Through the winds, the shadows, battering rain,
The beast stays put, never complaining,
Dutifully doing her job, bringing sailors safely home-

Mikala had been doing fantastic in the riding les-

One afternoon, when Mikala and Ebony

It was almost like her secret lair.
She never could be caught,
It meant that not
Everyone knew she was there.
She’d sleep while they were gone
While they went to the store
But get off when they came home,
For she never could get caught.
She knew that is wasn’t allowed
And for getting away with it,
She was quite proud.
She would prance all around the house

And would act as if she was not just a cat
They would see her and get mad
Spray her with cold water

So she would jump off of it

The rain on the black pavement was glistening.
The sun was shining, giving the pavement that faint glare.
Rain mixed with sun seems to always allow a rainbow to appear.

Leaving red, yellow, orange, blue, green, and violet behind,
Each a feeling of sadness, hope, or happiness
Or all feelings put together into one.

The Perfect

I have wanted a horse ever since I was little. My
aunt Linda, who lives in a city called Onalaska, has
12 horses and rides them non-stop.
My dad always said, “Elisa, if you want a
horse it takes a lot of work. It can’t just be a pet that
is fun to ride and look at. You have to groom it eve-

I knew that it takes a lot of work, but I
know the reality of it all. I talked to my Aunt Linda
more about me wanting a horse.
She always said, “Dear, I don’t

know what it takes to really own your own pet.”

It’s a cold night the wind whistling a tune
Rain hitting the ground making puddles
A quiet siren in the distance

There is only silence
It’s a warm day, the swish of cars driving by
The sun reflecting off windows
A honk from traffic in the distance
The avenue is now flooded with cars going this way and that

The Life We Live
By Alyssa W.
The streets of the cities are full of us.
We roam the sidewalks with old coffee cans,
Asking for change, and either type will do.
Waking up to the cold pavement next to crowded streets,
Not sure what the world is going to throw
At us today, but ready to take it.
Sitting on the stone walkways under viaducts day after day
Not being able to do anything.
Dreaming about a perfect future,
But knowing that that future will never come,
We would give up everything to be like them,
Living in warm houses with a family that we love,
But as to this day all we can do is dream.

The Lights in the Sky
By Brandy S.
There is a time every year
Where the sky is turbulent and awake.
Open and wide, the lines are divided
Into clear and wonderful wrinkles.

world to the face of the ancient myths.
Spilling drops of sea foam green, Bleeding a god worthy red,
Sweeping purple throughout the universe,
Yellow shoots down from above.
Shades of turquoise and blue dangle
from the stars.
Strings of highlighter orange and maroon twist
around each other.
Giant rainbows engulf the world in a tie die fashion.
Needles pin themselves into the atmosphere,
Lighting up the pupils of so many in wonder
Occasionally hiding in the arms of trees,
Publicly exposing the hidden pleasure of beauty.
Colors splash into one another, making the sky live.
To roar with emotions,
To frolic on the lining of the atmosphere,
A rushing river overhead lighting the way.
