In animal studies, Sicotrans® Yellow L 1915 did not display acute toxicity. No acute irritant effect was shown in tests to determine the acute irritation of skin and mucous membranes. Exposure to extreme dust concentrations may cause temporary irritation to the eyes by mechanical influence. Iron oxides are natural constituents of virtually every type of natural stone and soil. Sicotrans® Yellow L 1915 does not represent any hazard for the environment owing to its inert, practically insoluble character. The pigment can be removed mechanically from effluents. If it is dumped on a controlled dumpsite, dissolved heavy metals are not given off to the seepage water. No lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium or mercury have intentionally been added to Sicotrans® Yellow L 1915. Analyses of representative standard samples have shown that the sum of the total content of these elements is less than 100 mg/kg and thus below the limit laid down in the EU Directive on packaging and packaging waste, 94/62/ EC, and the American CONEG model. The requirements of the EU Directive on electronic devices, 2002/95/EC, and the EU Directive on end-of-live vehicles, 2000/53/EC, are met.
