SOFTWARE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Preface: Express Detail Service software installation is done in 3 stages. The first Stage
installs the Bill2000 software. The second stage installs the Information Access software and
allows the user to merge the Bill2000 and the Information Access icons into one Windows
Group called NBTel’s Express Detail Service. The third stage is to configure your PC (and
LAN environment if installed on LAN) to allow Bill2000 to work properly.

Stage 1: Bill2000 Software Installation
The software can be installed on any Windows platform. The installation is performed
by the Setup program stored on the first diskette. Once you start it, pop-up windows
will guide you through the installation process. Use the <Next> and <Previous> buttons
to navigate through the installation windows or to modify a selection made in any
       previous window.
If Setup finds a previous version of the application, you can choose to update it or change
the installation directory. If you are updating, the space required will be approximately 7
MB, while a new installation will require 14 MB. When the installation is finished, a
message will appear on your screen to remind you of pertinent system requirements.
Click <OK> to dismiss the message after you have read it.
Note: A serial number is not provided with NBTel’s software package. You can enter any
number in the registration panel, or leave it blank. The serial number is used by other
Stentor Companies as a reference to identify customers and the software version.

The Setup program will ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for
disk space, CPU (processor), monitor, physical RAM, and virtual memory.

If your system does not meet any one of these requirements during the installation, a
       warning message will be displayed.

When any changes to your configuration are required, the Setup program will ask you for
permission to automatically update the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files on
your system. If you do not give your permission, the Setup program will create two files
(CONFIG.NEW and AUTOEXEC.NEW) containing only the corrected command lines
that you will need to copy and paste into your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
       files.

Stage 3: PC Configuration, Memory Considerations, and LAN Considerations
System requirements
Before you use the application, make sure that the data is loaded; and, that the equipment
and the computer configuration meet the following technical requirements:

Equipment
           Required
 IBM1 or compatible personal computer (PC) with 80486 processor
 Color monitor with VGA resolution or better
           Mouse
 14 Megabytes (MB) free hard disk space for software installation plus enough space
                for data
 8 MB of free memory (RAM)
           Modem

          Optional
           Printer
           CD-ROM reader

Software
           Windows2 platform
           Bill2000 software

Memory
To run the application, the sum of virtual and expanded memory must be no less than 14
megabytes. Since it is easier and less costly to increase the virtual memory than the
RAM memory, we recommend that you modify the virtual memory.
Windows 95 users should leave memory management to the control of the software.
System configuration
In the CONFIG.SYS file on your system, the FILES and BUFFER commands must
           indicate the following minimum values:
            FILES=90
            BUFFERS=20
If you use the SHARE command in your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT file, it
           must include the following switches:
                   /F:4096 /L:512

2 Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation.
      Network considerations
If you plan to use the application on a LAN, you will need to ensure that the number of
LAN files that can be opened at each station is at least 70. Furthermore, the sum of your
LAN files plus the setting of the FILES command in your CONFIG.SYS must not exceed
      255.
Note: The Setup program used to install the application cannot check the LAN settings for you.

Technical assistance
If you experience any problems with the installing the application, refer to the
Troubleshooting appendix at the end of the manual.
If you are unable to resolve the problem using the documentation, contact NBTel’s Toll
Free technical support service at 1-800-257-1720. In this case, we recommend that you
be at your computer, preferably with the problem displayed on the screen.

Be prepared to provide the following information about your system:
       Equipment
 Type of computer and processor
 Amount of free memory (RAM)
 Amount of hard disk space available
       Configuration
 Windows platform and version number
              Amount of virtual memory
              DOS version, if any
 Contents of the CONFIG.SYS file
 Contents of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file

If you change your CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT files, you must re-boot your PC
before the new changes will take effect.

Once you have installed your software and configured your PC, the next step is to download your
telecommunications bill from NBTel’s Mailbox Server to your PC or LAN environment. You
need to go to the Express Detail Manual, Section A and follow the instructions contained there
to configure your PC and modem to work with the Information Access software and then
download your data.

Good Luck!
