Very few attorneys can claim to own a First Edition of
Black’s Law Dictionary. This remarkable collector’s set includes rare copies of the first four editions! The set
would make a unique gift or an impressive addition to your bookshelf.

Modern editions of Black’s have dropped many of the older terms, especially from the English feudal law,
which are included in these original publications. These early editions also include a focus on legal Latin and
legal French as well as words and phrases from Scottish and Welsh law that have been dropped from later
publications.

First in this set is an extremely rare 115-year-old FIRST EDITION (1891) in excellent
condition. With the exception of very light soiling on the exterior and minimal pencil
marks on the front board, it would be described as “fine” or “near mint’ despite its age.
It has a beautiful ribbed-leather binding, pristine pages, bright and clear text, and no
interior stains or foxing. It is thumb-indexed with red and black morocco labels on the
                        spine.

You are unlikely to find another First Edition in this amazing condition at any price.
Copies of lesser quality typically sell for $1400-$1900. Compare:

This collector’s set also includes a very good copy of the Second Edition (1910)
which is very rare. Copies of lesser quality commonly sell for $700-$800. It has
its original ribbed-leather binding which shows loving use but the interior is
                            pristine.

In this edition, Black included more citations to law reports and case law in support
of his definitions and also added many more terms of medical jurisprudence.

leather bindings, rounding out a set which would serve as a great foundation for a complete collection.
