NCLB Title I - Program Improvement (PI) Parent Notification Letters for Schools 2009-2010

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that parents of students attending schools that are identified as Program Improvement (PI) must be notified of the school’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and the educational options that are offered to eligible students. The California Department of Education (CDE) has not yet released the final Califonia Standards Test (CST) data and 2009 PI status. It is anticipated that the data will be available later in September. Upon release of the data by CDE, the Parent Notification Letter for schools will be posted on the Sacramento City Unified School District’s website: www.scusd.edu. Additionally, students at PI schools will bring the letter home to their parents to read. The NCLB PI Parent Notification letter will include the AYP data and the following educational options: Public School Choice: Parents of children attending PI schools Year 1 and beyond may choose to transfer their children to an available non-PI school within the Sacramento City Unified School District. The district will provide transportation to the selected available non-PI school by the parent. SCUSD will make every attempt to place students at the school of the parent’s choice. Eligible elementary school students will take a school bus to the non-PI school. Eligible middle and high school students will be given a Regional Transit monthly pass to travel to the non-PI school. The Public School Choice request form will be included in the PI Parent Notification letter. Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Free Tutoring: Parents of children attending PI schools Year 2 and beyond may request free tutoring before and after school in the following subject areas: English Language Arts, math, and or science. The companies that provide tutoring are approved to serve our students by the California Department of Education. All tutoring services are offered before and after school hours. The eligible students at the PI schools do not need to pay for the tutoring services. Parent informational fairs and brochures will be available on the first day of school. The application will be included in the SES parent brochure.
