ocfish is one of the biggest things happening
in Australian Christian music this year.
The whole Rocfish thing began on the Gold Coast
with a group of young adults at a dinner party early
in 2000. A year later, auditions were held for the performers who
would be Rocfish. Since then, Brie, Emily, Joey and their fishy friend

it no-one knows! We
walk through our church doors
portraying a mask that our lives
are all perfectly happy because it
isn’t acceptable for any of us to
have any problems—people
might talk!
Now let’s say the church was
different . . . like a hospital where
sick people came. What would
you see?
When I worked in hospitals as a
nurse I never saw patients com-
paring themselves with each other
—who’s got the biggest brain
tumour, or the most heart dis-
ease? I never saw patients arguing
about operating-room techniques
or minute points of “concern” in
medical textbooks. Neither did I
see patients ever trying to
“excommunicate” other patients
for being too sick! I don’t remem-
ber ever seeing a patient pull out
someone else’s drip or catheter
(ouch!). Not once did I see any-
one trying to turn off another’s
oxygen, or hide some poor bed-
ridden patient’s call bell.
What I did see was people walk-

gowns—some were even untied
down the back, showing their
