Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to Heidelberg and the International Conference ‘Knowledge
through Interaction: How Children Learn about Self, Others and Objects’

After three years of enriching interdisciplinary exchange the “Social Brain-
Project”, which was funded by VW-Stiftung, is completed. The participating
scientists from disciplines of philosophy, developmental psychology and
psychiatry investigated the importance of socially induced abilities in the
process of individual development. The completion of the project gives us an
opportunity to continue and to extend the interdisciplinary dialogue. The
purpose of the present meeting is to highlight the special role, which social
interaction plays for children’s developing knowledge about self, others and
objects. Corresponding philosophical, developmental and intercultural
perspectives will be presented. The organizers are striving for offering ample
time for general discussion.

We are looking forward to an interesting and livelily conference.
