 Greetings From Our Regional Director
Well! We are already past the 100th day of the school year and I am still ready and waiting for a snow day or two. Two
hour delays can be nice, but they just can’t compare to a snow day!
On December 16th, we met at the home of Sue Ayers for our annual Nibble and Network party. This is one of my fa-
vorite Western events. We planned some upcoming Western activities, enjoyed some appetizers and lots of laughter.
We also, dropped off artwork for YAM, YPAE shows, and returned past show pieces.
I would like to welcome, Kari Imoro to the Western Regional Board. Kari is our new Regional Awards Chair and she
has been completing her duties as if she has had this position for years. Thank you, Kari, you are a wonderful addition
                       to the Western Board!

The annual Young People’s Art Exhibition and Youth Art Month events are in the works. State chairs are preparing letter,
labels and shrink-wrapping away to get the art ready for the big March shows in Columbus. The YPAE event will be held at
Rhodes State Tower on Saturday March 16th, 2013 in Columbus.
YAM events are going to also be held on Saturday March 16th at the STRS building in Columbus. See the OAEA website to
find the times for the YAM/YPAE events. If your student has work in these shows, we would love to see you at these pres-

The 2013 regional student art exhibition, also known as the “summer show”, is open to ALL Western members of
OAEA with students in grades K-12! That’s right: It’s not just a K-8 show or a high school show; it’s BOTH! Though
the limit is eight (8) items per member, we will happily settle for one or two. If you submitted work to the YAM/
YPAE, you may already have work in the summer show, because anything not selected for YAM or YPAE is auto-

Submissions will be accepted May 1 through May 8. Entries may be packaged and labeled
“WOAEA Summer Show--Mary Baine” and dropped off at the Dayton Art Institute. Though work can sometimes be left with the staff
at the pavilion entrance, we recommend leaving it with the staff at the main desk in the rotunda or asking them if you can bring it to the
ERC yourself. Work can also be dropped off WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. ONLY during the month-
ly regional board meeting at Panera on Brown Street. Other arrangements can be made by contacting Mary Baine
(mbaine@woh.rr.com). Once the work has been collected, the chairs (Mary McGowan Baine and Melissa Clark Bresemann) will organ-
ize it and send letters to all students and teachers with work in the show, which will be displayed at the ArtStreet Gallery on Kiefaber
Street, adjacent to the University of
Dayton. The date for hanging the show has not yet been determined; it is planned for the week of June 10 through 14. The show will be
available for viewing from that point through July 26 during regular gallery hours; the artists’ receptions are scheduled for Saturday,
July 27.

ished watercolors. The workshop will be from 9:00 – 3:00 at Arcanum High School, 2012 Trojan Avenue, Arcanum, Ohio. Limit of 24.
This FREE workshop is part of your WOAEA benefits. CEU’s and contact hr certificates will be given. Pack a lunch and come stretch as
an artist and get great ideas for the classroom. Contact Cathy Sweny @ cas113art@aol.com or 937-866-6782 to reserve your spot.

1. Eight entries total per OAEA member K-12 art teacher may be submitted.

Works submitted but not accepted for YAM/YPAE are already part of the

summer show and count as part of the eight.

2. Art teacher must be a member of the Ohio Art Education Association.

3. Maximum size is 24”x30” including the 3”x 3”x3.5” mat.

rejected, as well as work with dirty, messy or inaccurately cut mats.

5. Use heavy mat board or pebble mat board.

6. Back artwork with poster board, railroad board, or oak tag. Do not use foam

core, mat board, or cardboard. Art will be displayed using 3-M sticky tabs that

will not support the weight.

7. Entries may be 2-D or 3-D. Base must be sturdy with artwork securely

attached to assure the safety of any 3-D piece.

8. Relief work cannot exceed the depth of the mat.

9. Identify the TOP of the piece and include the teacher name and home phone

number directly on the back of the artwork in case anything should happen to

the information form.

10.Top and bottom sections of the information sheet belong on the back of the

artwork. DO NOT cut them apart. Please fill out the form completely and

neatly. DO NOT tape or glue the bottom section of the form to the artwork.

11.Please note that the BOTTOM section of the form is detached and used to

prepare letters for students and tags for artwork. If either section is illegible,

inaccurate, or incomplete, it should be the TOP one!
