The Christmas Arcade

A Christmas at Somerset House builds on the lively and imaginative annual programme for Skate,
creating a magical contemporary venue of retail theatre in one of London’s most iconic destinations.
Open to skaters and non-skaters day and night, The Christmas Arcade will feature pop-up retail shops
showcasing British brands, designer makers, food and drink. The West Wing and courtyard will come
alive with magical lights, colours, shapes and decorations to create a Christmas experience like no
other in London.

The Christmas Arcade is an exciting public programme designed to highlight and support British
designers, makers and brands. Working with Handmade in Britain, The Christmas Arcade will offer
specially selected products created and made in Britain from startup creative enterprises and
established British brands. Special events will be offered throughout the nine weeks to integrate A
Christmas at Somerset House into the wider cultural programme at Somerset House and increase
visitor numbers and press coverage.

Skate at Somerset House

After twelve successful years, the Somerset House ice rink is the best outdoor ice rink in London.
Established in 2000 Skate at Somerset House was the first winter outdoor ice rink in London. Since its
launch, Skate has encouraged a new generation of avid skaters and contributed to the development of
open-air ice rinks around the city. With a programme and design which develops and changes year on
year the Somerset House ice rink continues to be the most beautiful and exciting in the city, attracting
approximately 300,000 visitors and over 100,000 skaters each season. ‘London’s most glamorous ice
rink. Whether you’re gliding along to the sounds of Tchaikovsky or top DJs, it’s a festive experience
that’s hard to beat’- The Times Magazine.
