					Doris Fukawa

Professional violinist and music educator, Doris Fukawa. is a native
Californian. She grew up in Berkeley where she studied the violin with
Anne Crowden and attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music
Preparatory Division. She earned a B.M. from the Manhattan School of
Music, where she continued her studies with Raphael Bronstein and Ariana
Bronne. Her chamber music coaches include Colin Hampton, Anne Crowden,
Lillian Fuchs and The Manhattan Trio. Ms. Fukawa earned an M. Ed. at
Columbia University Teachers College.

Ms. Fukawa has been a frequent performer with the San Francisco Symphony
and San Francisco Opera orchestra since 1988. Recent seasons have
included performances with the Opera de Lyon, Oakland/East Bay
Symphony, California Symphony and Skywalker Symphony Orchestra. She
has also been concertmaster of Midsummer Mozart and Opera SanJose. A
soloist at the Asian Art Museum's Modern Japanese Composition Series,
and a member of ISKRA, a contemporary ensemble with conductor, Kent
Nagano, Ms. Fukawa has also served as solo violinist for the Erick
Hawkins Dance Company in New York City. She has recorded with the San
Francisco Contemporary Players on Newport Classic Ltd, and on London and
Sony record and cd labels.

Although she is an active performer, Ms. Fukawa is a committed educator
and teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory
Division where she is on the violin faculty and serves as the Director
of Ensembles and Chamber Music. She is the Conductor of the String
Ensemble at The Crowden School Community Music Center and has been a
guest conductor and clinician in school districts throughout the San
Francisco Bay Area, Cazadero Performing Arts Camp, and the New York
Metropolitan Area . Ms. Fukawa is also on faculty for the Summer
Institute for Chamber Music at the University of the Redlands, an ASTA
with NSOA program.
