Objective:
Course objective is to ensure that participants will gain a thorough conceptual
understanding of Oracle database Architecture. Instructor led learning will be enforced
with structured hands on practices. This course is designed to give participants necessary
knowledge and skills to set up, maintain and trouble shoot Oracle 8I database .In addition
participants will be introduced to critical task of implementing database backup and
recovery strategies.
Description of course modules:
1. Database Administration
a. Understand the architecture and components of a oracle database.
b. Create & manage a instance of database.
− Control Files
− Redo Log Files
− Tablespaces & Data files
− Data Dictionary views and standard Packages
c. Storage Structure of a database
d. Managing various components of database
− Rollback Segments
− Temporary Segments
− Tables
− Indexes
− Data integrity
− Clusters & Index Organized Tables
e. User related tasks
− Managing users
− Managing profiles
− Managing Privileges
− Managing Roles
f. Auditing
2. BACKUP AND RECOVERY:
a. DESCRIBE BACKUP AND RECOVERY STRATEGIES
− List the key issues involved when defining an effective backup and
recovery strategy.
− Discuss methods for restoring Oracle recovery structures and process.
− Examine Oracle backup and recovery configuration
− Implement different types of backup methods using various DBA tools
b. List the components of Oracle Recovery Manager Architecture
− Discuss Oracle recovery catalog maintenance
− List the different Oracle backup methods
− Examine physical backup with and without Oracle recovery manager
− Examine logical backup using the export utilities
− Use appropriate restore and recovery operations to resolve database
failure
− Diagnose and troubleshoot database problems and failures
c. Practice Recovery Methods
− Recover a database with and without archiving
− Study complete and incomplete Oracle recovery with archiving
− View Oracle export /Import utilities
− Discuss Oracle standby databases
− Configure a standby database to minimize primary database
downtime.

Note:
1. Students are required to complete the exercises at the end of each chapter as a part of
assignment grade.
2. Assignments will be submitted using the submit utility.(Instructions to be provided later)
3. If student passes DBA certification test with oracle he/she get FULL 20% of Midterm
Grade.
4. If student passes the Performance Tuning certification test with oracle he/she get FULL
20% of Final exam.
