1 Business Analysis



1.1 Company Overview



ImmunoGen, Inc. (ImmunoGen) is a biopharmaceutical company specialized in the development of anticancer

therapeutics. The company’s TAP technology uses monoclonal antibodies to produce proprietary cancer-cell killing agents

to tumor cells. Its TAP technology is designed to deliver the creation of well-tolerated anticancer products. The company

also licenses TAP technology to various other companies including Amgen, Lilly, Bayer HealthCare, Biotest, Novartis,

Roche and Sanofi, which use its proprietary antibodies to specific targets. As of June 30, 2012, the company had a

patent portfolio of 381 issued patents and 438 pending patent applications. ImmunoGen is headquartered in Waltham,

Massachusetts, the US.



1.2 Business Description



ImmunoGen develops targeted therapeutics to treat cancer with its competency in the areas of cancer biology,

monoclonal antibodies and potent cytotoxic or cell-killing agents. The company develops anticancer therapeutics using

Targeted Antibody Payload (TAP) technology.



The company operates in a single reportable business segment: discovery of monoclonal antibody-based anticancer

therapeutics.



ImmunoGen developed a proprietary product development technology, Targeted Antibody Payload (TAP) to enhance the

anticancer activity of monoclonal antibodies. This technology may use antibodies with significant anticancer activity

including trastuzumab for the achievement of enhanced anticancer activity. The company also developed a proprietary

cell-killing agent by using TAP technology, called maytansinoid cancer-cell killing agents to interfere in the activity of

Tabulin to affect the successful cell division.



The company focuses extensively on research and development (R&D) operations, as a result of which, it developed a

pipeline of therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The company develops Trastuzumab-DM1 as its lead product

candidate for treatment of Breast cancer and Gastric cancer in phase III and Phase II of clinical development respectively.
