Chapter 1 Introduction to web advertising

Now you see the upper portion of this site is what you called text ads. This is quite
different from your usual catchy banner ads. This piece of text came from google. Yes
the search engine.
The genius about this is that the ads is changing, meaning if you do a refresh of the
Site or reload this again and again, you will notice that some of the ads change.
Moreover, what google does is it scans the web page and find relevant sponsored ads that
is somewhat near the topic of that web page.
This is why these ads are what we call “relevant ads”. Now go to the window you just
opened and click on one of the ads there.
Notice that it goes to the website of the owner of that ads. This is how google make
money. In fact if you go to google itself, you can see similar ads at the right side.

Notice that the google ads are at the right side? Click on refresh a couple of times just to
see if it will change ads. Now click on any of those ads and see what happens.
The content of these ads are depended on words or group of words that you frequently
see on that same page, in the latter’s case, the most of the words, sentences is about
making money so you will notice that the ads is about making money.
This technique of google increased the chances of people clicking these ads and therefore
increasing their revenue.
You can have a piece of this income from google. As you know, the more websites
these ads are, the more income google will make. However, google cannot create
thousands of websites and thus their strategy is to partner with website owners and just
put a small piece of code on their site and google pays them for each successful “referral”

Try doing a refresh for each web page and see if it changes. Try clicking once in a while
just to get a feel of what happens. You may try clicking the first up to the fourth ad.
What are the benefits of this advertising scheme? The web advertiser is happy because of
the increased traffic to their site, google is happy because they earn, the website owner
who publishes the google ads is also happy because they share in the profits from google.
So how much do you earn? I’d like to get a snapshot of the income I got but it was
stated in the terms and conditions from google that one can not give details on
clickthrough rates and effective CPMs…etc.
I’ve edited out some of the portions but you will see that about 2000+ page impressions,
meaning the google ads was shown 2000+ times and out of that only 75 times the visitor
clicked on the ads and it produced $23.01 dollars. (In just 1 week!). So that’s about
$92.04 a month. And moreover, I only have visitors in 4 out of the 7 days in that
week.
Wanna know how much it my net income is? Cost of webhosting per month is around
$5.35 so net income would be $86.69 or around PHP4,854.64. Now imagine how
much more will I earn if I have visitors in my site for the whole 7 days? There were
cases where website owners earn $300 to $3000 a month.
Note: 2000 page views doesn’t mean there were 2000 visitors. One web site contains
Multiple pages and navigating to the next page registers as one page view.
Chapter 2 . Setting up your own site.
For you to register as a google ad publisher, you need to have a website. Now there are
several ways to have a website even if you do not know how to build one.
1. Have somebody build a one page website for you. It costs around PHP500 to
PHP1,000 to have one made.
2. Create a website yourself. - There are cheap books that shows people how to
create websites.
Now when you have a website, you also need a webhosting company where you will

package because this will have enough space and bandwidth for you to start your own
google income.
You also need to get a domain name. (ie. Yourcompany.com). It will cost you only

domain and just point it to your webhosting account.
Now should this still be jargon to you, you might wanna send an email to the manager

Chapter 3. Registering in Google Adsense.
Now that you have a website, it is time to register in google’s adsense program.
Visit www.google.com/adsense and you will see this screen.
Now key in your email address, and set your password. You will then be led to this
screen.
Choose Individual.
Enter your details here. Note that the payee name would be the name to be written on
your cheque. Google will send you your income via cheque by mail.
Make sure you have check marks on the above 2 items (adsense and websearch).
Just follow the instruction and you will not go wrong.
Once you’re done with this, login to your google adsense account and get familiarized
with the menus and select the type of ad you like. Eventually, you will need to cut the
google adsense code and past it on your web page. If you got your webhosting account

adsense code and ask them if they could include this in your main web page.
Chapter 4. Testing your site
Now that your site contains the google adsense code, try going to your site and check if
