Academically Speaking…Here is what we are up to!
The Daily Five – Our Literacy Block
The students worked very hard this week to use their famous American research to
compose a paragraph. They wrote a draft and edited their spelling. They also typed
their speech on the computer. A copy of the speech will be in their homework
folders today. Some students did not finish their typing because of the early
dismissal. Those students have a copy of their handwritten paper. They will finish
the typing on Monday. Please begin to practice memorizing the speech. That will be
their homework next week.
Math
Students continued to work on developing their problem solving skills. Students are
encouraged to solve the problem using two different strategies and then write
about it in their journal. We added another work sample to their portfolios and the
students analyzed how their problem solving skills are increasing since the beginning
of the year.
Students are also practicing how to add doubles (4+4=8) and doubles plus one
(4+5=9). They played some math games to help reinforce this skill.
Social Studies
Famous Americans!
During the next two weeks students will be learning about many famous Americans.
This week they learned about Martin Luther King, Jr., George Washington and
Abraham Lincoln. We read stories about these famous men and created a circle map
to list facts. Students used the circle maps to write about each person in their
Famous American Journal.
