Final Project Overview and Timeline
Final Project Overview
The final project for this course is designed to help you apply what you have learned about the
different organ systems in the human body. In this assignment you analyze a specific set of
systems or processes of the human body, evaluating how they are interconnected to achieve
such functions as circulation or simply taking a breath of air. The following is a list of the
processes to choose from for your final project:
Primary Organ System Secondary Organ System(s) Process(es)
Lymphatic Cardiovascular Healing a cut
Lymphatic Skeletal Production and storage of
Cardiovascular Respiratory Circulation
Cardiovascular Muscular Circulation
Respiratory Cardiovascular Gas Exchange
Digestive Urinary Nutrient and water absorption
Urinary Cardiovascular Urine production and
Nervous (including general Integumentary Reaction to touching a hot
Integumentary Muscular Sweating during exercise
Muscular Skeletal, Integumentary Movement across a joint
Note: Many of the systems and processes have a circular interconnectedness – there is not a
linear process with most.
Final Project Timeline
You should budget your time wisely and work on your project throughout the course. As outlined
below, some assignments in the course are designed to assist you in creating your final project. If
you complete your course activities and use the feedback provided by the instructor, you will be
on the right track to successfully complete your project.
Suggested in Week One: Read the final project requirements detailed in the syllabus, and
review the Organ Systems Matrix. Update your Organ Systems Matrix as often as possible
throughout this course.
Due in Week Two: Complete the Joint Analysis Learning Team assignment. Update your
Organ Systems’ Matrix with information about the skeletal, muscular, and the integumentary
Suggested and due in Week Three: If you have not done so already, choose one set of
systems and processes from the list above to research for your final project and begin
compiling notes. Complete the Endocrine System assignment. Update your Organ Systems
Matrix with information about the nervous and endocrine systems.
Due in Week Four: Complete the Blood Flow and the Gas Exchange assignments. Update
your Organ Systems Matrix with information about the cardiovascular and respiratory
Due in Week Five: Complete the Digestive System assignment. Update your Organ Systems
Matrix with information about the digestive system.
Due in Week Six: Complete the Lymphatic System assignment. Update your Organ Systems
Matrix with information about the urinary and lymphatic systems.
Due in Week Seven: Complete the Reproductive System assignment. Update your Organ
Systems Matrix with information about the reproductive system. Complete and submit your
System Connections final project.
