Job Title:                Network Manager

Salary:                   Grade H: £25,649 - £29,143 per annum

Purpose of Job:
To contribute to Sustrans strategic aims in the North East by increasing levels
of active travel in the North East through the development and maintenance
of walking and cycling infrastructure. This post will work across the entire

Key Responsibilities:
1.    To work with key partner agencies to develop a comprehensive regional
      network of strategic and local cycle routes, including planning, funding,
      physical construction, promotion and marketing. The National Cycle
      Network, Connect 2 and Links to Schools will be a key focus of this
2.    To facilitate planning, funding, physical construction, promotion and
      marketing of this network.
3.    To project manage the Connect2 schemes until Spring 2013.
4.    To project manage the DfT Links to Communities Programme.
5.    To support the Tyne and Wear LSTF Links to Schools programme (until
      March 2015) with support and guidance on scheme selection and
      quality control.
6.    To be responsible for maintenance of Sustrans and RPL owned/leased
      land obligations in the North East.
7.    To manage the regional Site Team as well as sub-contractors.
8.    To liaise with local authority partners, and other landholders, to
      highlight and address matters that affect the quality of NCN and other
      regional cycle networks.
9.    To manage the regional maintenance plan and database for Sustrans
      and RPL landholdings in the North East.
10.   To liaise with local volunteer groups, in particular route rangers, with
      regard to inspection, maintenance and workdays on the cycle network
      and to maximise the benefit of their support.
11.   To contribute to the development and revision of individual and joint
      Transport Plans, Rights of Way Improvement Plans and Cycling and
      Walking Strategies.
12.   To work in partnership with local and regional arts officers in
      developing public art projects.
13.   To represent the region on the National Technical Forum.
14.   To support and comply with the organisation's Policy for the
      management of Health and Safety.
15.   To work in accordance with the arrangements described in the
      organisation's health and safety management system including any
      project or department specific requirements.
16.   To be responsible for construction and maintenance (Site Team) Health
      and Safety requirements.
17.   To work with the Promotion and Development Officer to identify and
      implement opportunities for promotion and income generation based
      around the NCN.
18.   To perform any other reasonable tasks necessary for the effective
      operation of the region

Working Conditions:
The postholder will work from Sustrans Office in Newcastle. The work will
involve travel around the whole region - occasional visits to the company’s
Head Office in Bristol will also be required. Some evening and weekend
working will also be required.
