In Circuit Court:
A $9.9 million settlement has been reached in a medical malpractice
lawsuit as the Appellate Court was reviewing a jury award of more than
Sandra Hogan, 51, had claimed that two doctors and Northwestern
Memorial Hospital were liable for the failure in 1995 to diagnose lung
cancer, which later spread to her brain.
Plaintiff attorneys were John J. Perconti and Mary Ellen Cagney of
Levin & Perconti and David K. Kremin of David K. Kremin &
Associates. Defense attorneys were Julie A. Romson of McKenna,
Storer, Rowe, White & Farrug and John V. Smith II and Genevie F.
Labuda of Pretzel & Stouffer.
The case is Sandra Hogan v. Thomas L. Pitts, M.D., et al., No. 99 L
2316. Cook County Circuit Judge Irwin J. Solganick presided over
trial in the action, which was closed out late last week.
