The bookstore has since expanded to three loca-

such events as the annual Oxford Conference for
the Book and the weekly Thacker Mountain Radio
Over the years, Square Books has employed as
booksellers hundreds of university and high-school
students, who have gone on to become engineers,
lawyers, writers, doctors, artists, politicians, minis-
ters, teachers — and bookstore owners.
Richard Howorth returned to focus on the book-
store in 2009 after eight years as the Oxford mayor.
Key staff members today include Lyn Roberts, gener-
al manager; Cody Morrison, buyer; and Slade Lewis,
who manages the main store and customer service.
At the main location, Amanda Malloy is senior
bookseller. Sally McLellan manages bookkeeping
and the Speed Reader email newsletter.
At Square Books Jr., staff members include
buyer Jill Moore and longtime booksellers Ramona
Wanlass, Leita Patton and Paul Fyke. Off Square
Books staff includes senior bookseller Adam Brady
and bookseller Deg Ronilo.
