General Business:
-Hire of touch pads to Caroline Bay. No wiring from gear retrieved from QEII. Lesley had an OSM6
available. Need to get pads and all electronics out to know what works. Christine moved to respond to
Caroline Bay that at this point in time it is not a functional unit. Gill seconded. Carried.
-Eastern Districts, enquiring after possible meet in Timaru.
-Jellie Park update. Wayne reported on progress to date. Two meetings last week with Christchurch City
Council. Council wants dates for meets, some possible clash may exist with waterpolo. Have put a hold
on proceeding with electronics meantime as CCC would need to close pool to re-tile it to the right
length. CWC could have manual meets at Jellie Park with very little changes: additional seating and
change of height for blocks only. Council would prefer one session per day rather than two per day.
Clubs may need to look at altering programmes. Clubs need to be reminded 45 seconds interval as
realistic timeline as some are setting programmes at less than this but it is not workable.
  - SNZ review to be held on May 20 at Wigram. Wayne encouraged all to attend.
-Christchurch City Council has released a document outlining proposed changes to squad fees, some of
which are quite large increases. There is a mMeeting on Thursday 26th regarding the proposal.
-AGM date. 29 July 1.00pm set. Venue to be decided.
-Division II incident. Brian suggested a letter needs to be sent to clubs reminding expected conduct
expected of behavior, appearance, and sportsmanship. All agreed. Jenny to send
-Canterbury West Coast Championships. Sub committee met last week to discuss feedback received to
date. A document from that meeting had since been circulated to committee. A brief précis of the main
      points consist of:

        1. Overwhelming support for the Canterbury West Coast Championships to remain long course with
        Dunedin as the preferred option

        2. The date of the event was much discussed in the feedback received. Three options suggested with
preference to return to middle week of January. For 2013 this would be 16-20 January

        3. Remove the 12 years and under swimmers from the Canterbury West Coast Championships and
host a separate short course CWC Junior Championships in Christchurch for these swimmers.

        4. Need need to align both Canterbury West Coast and Otago age group qualifying times as they
        currently differ.

        5. Need for both regions to decide their medallists in the morning sessions so that the racing in
morning and evening sessions is conducted on an equitable basis.

        6. There is a need to review the 400m freestyle in session 2 as this year the event followed directly
after the distance events the night before.

        7. Open ABCD finals in last year’s meet meant many swimmers missed out on a chance to swim in a
final. If the 12 and under group of swimmers are not competing then the suggestions are:
In 50 and 100m events there would be single age groups with A & B finals (B final if 20 competitors
        race).
        In 200m events there would be 3 age groups 13-14, 15-16, 17 & over with A & B finals (B final if 20
        competitors race).
        Finalists can be determined either:
                                                                                                            6
a)A group Finalists comprised of the top four swimmers from each region. B group finalists being the
next best 8 regardless of region
b)Top 16 swimmers regardless of region who would race seeded to their time swum in the
        preliminaries
c)Top 8 swimmers from either region who would race seeded to their time swum in the preliminaries

        8. A Highlanders/Crusaders format was suggested for finals at night with preliminary events raced as
        regional championships.

        9. Need for better warm down facilities; dive well inadequate and unsafe for numbers of participants.

        10. Support for medal presentations to be made at night as sessions were short enough to allow for
        this.

        11. 2 marshalls at all times, one from either region so there is familiarity with swimmers, as well as a
        starter from either region.

A finalised document is to be sent to clubs and Otago outlining proposal and inviting further feedback which
must be received within a fortnight.

-Brian asked about status of 50m pool. Wayne advised no further discussion had been held regarding this.
-Christchurch City Council’s Draft Annual Plan. Need to put in combined submission. SCWC submission to
be circulated to clubs for feedback. Submission needs to be to Council by 21 May.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 9.47pm

                                             Next meeting 14 May 2012

                                                                                                                7
