ABK Caring Service is a wellestablished company, providing care and support for vulnerable adults and older people in their own homes. Barking College Ms Vanessa Trampleasure Based on the Romford/Dagenham borders Barking College attracts students from all over Essex primarily for its construction courses. The college is one of the biggest providers in the South East with places for over 3,000 construction trainees. 3 10 Burnham Town Council The Town Council oversees the smooth running of the town and its services. Many services in our town are provided by Maldon District Council or Essex County Council but it is our responsibility to hold them accountable. The Town Clerk and his personal assistant run the office and assist Councillors and members of the public. The Council holds 12 meetings per year, of which four are statutory. We also hold an annual Town Meeting. The councillors are elected by the residents of Burnham to represent them at Council and to try to achieve what the electorate feel the town needs. The Council also holds planning meetings throughout the year to look at applications for planning permission for new buildings or extensions, before passing on our recommendations to Maldon District Council who have final say. We also provide the training for South East Essex and Havering Colleges. 8 Chelmsford College Ms Helen Ellis Our extensive selection of courses includes Office skills, Art, Design and Media, Business, Construction, Early Years, Engineering Sports and Leisure, and many more. 11 Chelmsford Dance Centre Mr Phil Meacham The Chelmsford Dance Centre is a full-time dance studio teaching ballroom, Latin American, salsa and hip hop dancing. We are currently recruiting trainees with a view to their working in the studio on either a full-time o part-time basis. This includes impartial, up-to-date careers information and advice on education, training and employment opportunities. 28 Connexions - Train for your Future Ms Kaz Duffield and Mr Ian Harden  Train for your Future is part of the Connexions service.  We offer government funded training opportunities in employment for young people aged 16 and 17 years.  We work with the employer and young person to source the most beneficial training and act as additional support over the course of the qualification programme.  Employers are supported through joined-up working  We can also provide financial support with travelling costs to attend training and buying course materials. This is particularly beneficial for those people studying hairdressing, forensic science, food prep and catering, childcare etc. 7 Dengie Crops Ltd Mr Mark Button and Mr David Filce Dengie Crops Ltd manufactures horse food from alfalfa (lucerne) grown on 4,500 acres in the Dengie Peninsular. We store 20,000 tonnes of locally grown grain. We have production and office activities in Asheldham, an office in Heybridge and sales staff in all parts of the UK. Employment opportunities are in drying, baling, sales and administration. 25 Dengie Project Trust Ms Debbie Tanner and Ms Diane Defontaine The company is a registered charity based in Steeple Road, Southminster. We provide a number of projects for the older person, one of which is Knightswood Day Centre. Essex County Council – Schools, Children and Families (Careers Opportunities in Early Years and Childcare) Mr Terry Hollingsworth Essex as a Local Authority has to provide flexible childcare and meet parent demands. This has resulted in significant growth within the sector in recent years, a view also held for the foreseeable future. The key current developments relate to the opening of 90 childcare centres in Essex by March 2010. Sixty of these will be open by 31 March 2008. Essex is already investing in greater resources to front-line staff in communities working with a variety of agencies. This will eventually open up career opportunities in a broader range of children’s services. 26 16 Essex County Council – Youth Training and Employment Jay Lunness It is our aim to provide work-based learning for young people, by offering them the skills and training needed to assist them in their career and personal development. We support the learner in gaining experience of working as part of a team in an office environment and we help the learner to achieve the Apprenticeship Award which consists of Key Skills at an appropriate level, NVQ at level 2 and Technical Certificate. 38 Essex Police PC Shelley Adam and PC Judy Atkinson Two police constables available to answer questions in relation to joining the Police – initial recruitment, standards, qualifications required etc. Essex Marine Police Ben Mearing Based at Burnham-on-Crouch, the Essex Police Marine Unit is responsible for policing all tidal waters under British jurisdiction and within the Essex Police area. In addition, the unit is responsible for policing the many estuaries, inland waterways, rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs and disused sandpits, plus any seasonal floods. The rivers and coastline are patrolled throughout the year to carry out stop checks and gather information. These patrols enable officers find out who is moving in and out of the country, and general marine activity. Accordingly, their range of business is very wide and their work can be both demanding and rewarding. Solicitors spend much of their time communicating with people. Palmers is one of the leading law firms in Essex with offices in Basildon, South Woodham Ferrers and Thurrock and currently employing 120 people. It has recently won an award for its trainee solicitor recruitment programme. 6 22 Panspermia Microbiology Mr Sam Jayasekara *FROM 11 AM ONWARDS* Panspermia is a microbiology laboratory. We test pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and toiletry products to ensure that they meet set standards and comply with the EU directives and that they are safe for the consumer. We test and examine raw materials used in products such as water and starches etc. We undertake isolation and identification of organisms and contaminants and work closely with our clients in terms of Research and Development, carrying out preservative challenge tests and stability testing. We also act as consultants for factory hygiene. 27 Poulten, Selfe & Lee Ltd Mr Dave Thomas We manufacture scientific instruments for measuring viscosity. These instruments can be of a manual type or automatic. Our instruments measure such substances as oil, polymer and pulp. We supply companies all over the world from China to South America. 39 Restaurant Associates (Fine Dining) Mr Shane King A representative with 24 years experience in the catering business will answer questions and give advice. 34 Royal Air Force Chief Tech Owen Nicholls We will be there to promote the RAF and to answer any questions about a rewarding career in the RAF. There will be information on more than 60 jobs in the Service. The University currently has over 7,500 students from over 130 countries across the world, making a friendly, cosmopolitan location for study. 29 Wickford Chiropractic Clinic Dr Rebecca Willard Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine. Treatment consists of a wide range of manipulative techniques designed to improve the function of the joints, relieving pain and muscle spasm. Most chiropractors work in private practice although some do provide services through he NHS.
