Academic Integrity - College of Engineering
You can find the guidelines for dealing with academic integrity issues (plagiarism, cheating
on homework or exams, etc) at http://www.engr.psu.edu/CurrentStudents/acadinteg.aspx. It
is important to follow the University / College procedures for dealing with Academic
Integrity issues to avoid problems in enforcing any penalties and to ensure that there is a
record of the case and its resolution in the student's file. Andrew Zydney has served on the
College's Academic Integrity Committee and would be happy to answer any questions about
  the procedures or policies.

Adobe Connect Technical Contacts
Stephen Black and Steven Smith are the primary contacts in the department for questions
concerning Adobe Connect online meeting/presentation application. This can be used to
facilitate video conferences (with shared PowerPoint) with individuals outside of Penn State.
All faculty and staff have the ability to create adobe connect meetings.

 College of engineering web site with information about using Adobe Connect.

 To access your scheduled meetings you can login to the Connect server at the
following URL with your Penn State Access Account.
          http://meeting.psu.edu/

 The http://meeting.psu.edu/ also has a guide for those starting Adobe Connect and,
training documents, and suggestions if you encounter technical problems with Adobe
          Connect.

ANGEL
ANGEL ( https://cms.psu.edu/ ) is a content management system maintained by the
university to give instructors the option to post course material, develop on-line quizzes and
surveys, and manage course grading without the need to know HTML.

Syllabi, homework assignments, and notes can be posted on ANGEL. Message boards, polls,
and quizzes can also be created using this application. No special software is required.
Course sites can be accessed and managed with your web browser on the ANGEL server(s).

Penn State Teaching and Learning with Technology Unit maintains a web site for questions
about ANGEL. This web site includes instructions on how to activate your ANGEL course
web site giving only registered students access.

To find out who is registered for your class you must go to https://eLion.psu.edu and do the
  following:

   Select Faculty
 Log on using your PSU ITS Account and password
 Select “classlist” (left side menu)
   Select semester and course

You can also access this information through ANGEL.

Department Travel – ERS (Employee Reimbursement System)
You must book your travel through Penn State Travel Services, the self-booking site Travel
OnLion, (http://www.travel.psu.edu/) or any of the Penn State approved travel agencies
(e-Travco and Centre for Travel). Business travel booked through any of these agencies can
be paid for using your purchasing card or a DBAF can be processed.

If a lower fare is found through another source (Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.) a comparison
must be obtained through Travel OnLion on the same day you receive a quote from the
other source. If the fare through Travel OnLion is higher you may purchase your ticket
through the other source but you must provide backup showing the fare was higher on Travel
  OnLion.

All travel reimbursements must be made through ERS. MJ processes these reimbursements
for faculty and staff when all paperwork is turned in.

Please go to http://www.ers.psu.edu/ for more information.

Employee Benefits
Once you have obtained your PSU Access Account, you can go to http://www.ohr.psu.edu/

Facilities
  Classroom podium locks
Each year you will be notified by the University with the access code for the classroom
computer podiums (typically needed to turn on the LCD projector in the room). This access
code will be valid for one year and should allow you access to all university classroom
podiums. If you have questions regarding the equipment or you have forgotten the access
code, please contact Audio Visual at: 865-5400.

                                             -7-
Classroom Scheduling – Sue Ellen Bainbridge
Classrooms are automatically scheduled for regular course offerings by Sue Ellen Bainbridge
(158 Fenske Laboratory). If you have any special requests please notify Sue Ellen
Bainbridge. There is rarely a chance to change the room for a regularly scheduled course,
since the courses are scheduled one year in advance. However, you should always check
your course schedule far ahead of time to avoid last-minute surprises.

Computer Lab (6D Fenske Lab) Scheduling
If you wish to schedule a computer lab for a class, help session, etc., either for a day or
throughout the semester; please contact Stephen Black and he will consult with you and
schedule a room that best fits your needs.

Undergraduate labs 6D and 9 are larger rooms seating approximately 32 each with 32
computers. Room 6D has no ceiling mounted projector but a mobile projector can be signed
out from Stephen Black’s office (Room 5 Fenske Lab).

Be sure all wires and remotes are returned with the units you borrow. When you are done
using the borrowed equipment, please return it to the room you borrowed it from. If the
room is not accessible, please store it in a secured room until you are able to return it.

Computer Lab (9 Fenske Lab) Scheduling
The computer lab in room 9 Fenske Lab has been remodeled for presentations. The room is
equipped with a podium, projector (w/remotes), screen, and, if needed, a laptop for use in
software training classes. The room can accommodate 32 students.

                                                   Please reserve this room through:
                                                   Stephen Black
                                                   Room 5 Fenske Laboratory

Conference Room Scheduling
The department has three conference rooms (133A, 101, and 202 Fenske Laboratory). Any
of the administrative staff can schedule a conference room for your use or you can schedule
this yourself at https://www.engr.psu.edu/calendar

(simply click on the drop down menu at the top of the calendar for the appropriate room).

All the conference rooms are equipped with projectors for presentations. Remotes and
pointers for each of the conference room projectors can be checked-out from room 133
Fenske Laboratory. Please check out the conference room in advance to insure that you are
familiar with how the A/V equipment works.

When you are done using the equipment, before leaving the room, please be sure the
projector is turned off – this will significantly prolong the life of the projector. When you are
done using the borrowed equipment, please return it to the room you borrowed it from. If the
room is not accessible at that time, please store it in a secure location until you are able to
return it to the appropriate location.

If you wish to schedule a room for a special event, help sessions, etc., and one of our
conference rooms is not sufficient, please see Sue Ellen Bainbridge for assistance.

Chemical Engineering Department Truck
When signing out the department truck, you are responsible for following all University
regulations and PA state driving laws. The University guidelines can be found at:

  http://guru.psu.edu/policies/travelpolicyTRANSPORTATION.html

University-owned vehicles may be driven only by University employees. Students (including
  college work-study students) are normally not permitted to drive University-owned vehicles;
however, they as well as family members may act as relief drivers when accompanying a
faculty or staff member on a long trip.

All drivers must be 21 years or older, and hold a valid driver's license issued by a state of the
United States or by a province of Canada.
 Note Undergraduate students are NOT permitted to use this truck.
 Note In winter weather, the truck must be parked in the parking garage.

FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) is a federal law that governs how
we protect and disclose student educational records. As a recipient of federal funding, Penn
State is obligated to comply with FERPA. The University has established a requirement that
all users with access to “personally identifiable information” of students complete the
  FERPA test.

  View the tutorial on ANGEL.

  1. Go to http://cms.psu.edu (ANGEL)
  2. Press the "Logon" button and log in with your Penn State access account
  3. Under My Groups, click on "Find a group"
  4. In the Keyword Search box, enter "ferpa" and click on the Search button
  5. Click on the "FERPA - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act" link
  6. Click on each module, read the material, and when finished, take the quiz

Overview of the Purchasing Process
Orders over $2000 must be acquired through a purchase order. Obtain a quote from the
company you wish to make the purchase through and submit this to MJ who will then
process the PO through IBIS financial system. For more information, go to
  http://www.purchasing.psu.edu/process.shtml

Orders under $2000 may be purchased via the Penn State Purchasing Card. The Penn
State Purchasing Card is a Visa charge card that enables authorized Penn State employees to
purchase certain goods and services directly from a supplier. It eliminates the need for
additional paperwork (such as purchase orders and quotes) and it can be used for transactions
up to a predetermined limit, which varies by employee.

To obtain a purchasing card, you must complete an on-line tutorial and quiz at
https://guru.psu.edu/p-card/ and sign a Purchasing Card agreement that MJ will email to you
when you have taken the tutorial and passed the quiz. You will need to select either the quiz
for both Travel and goods/services or you can completely the separate quiz for goods and
services or the one for just Travel if you only need access to one of these.
If you plan on using the p-card to book business travel, lodging, and meals and also purchase
lab supplies then you should be taking the first quiz, which will provide authorization for you
to purchase both travel and goods / services.

Special Topics/Independent Research Course Offerings
Students may be allowed to use up to three credits of research (CHE 294, CHE 494) towards
the requirement for a CH E elective course in the general option. Only research credits in
Chemical Engineering may be used for this purpose. For students in options other than
general, up to 3 research credits may be petitioned provided that the work is in an area
  appropriate for the option.
Any of these courses may be taken but must be approved in writing by the sponsoring faculty
member. Research project courses (294, 494) are limited to students with an overall GPA of
at least a 3.0. Students below a 3.0 average may petition the department for permission to
  take research.

These courses in total may only replace 3 credits of the 6-credit chemical engineering
elective requirement. Additional credits may be used in the Other Course requirement or as
extra courses above the graduation requirement.

  CH E 497 and CH E 597
Many faculty decide to teach special topics course to introduce students to a particular area
of chemical engineering. These 497 / 597 courses can also be used to pilot a potential course
offering with the goal of converting this into a standard course offering at some point in the
  future.

CH E 497 courses are typically one to three credit undergraduate level courses suitable for
  Juniors or Seniors.

If you are interested in teaching a 497 course, you should provide Sue Ellen Bainbridge with
a title and number of credits. She will request, from the University Faculty Senate office,
that a letter character be assigned to the course number (ex. 497A). After the course is
assigned a letter and approved by the Senate Office overall, she will contact you about
scheduling an offering time for the course.

CH E 597 courses are typically 3 credit graduate level courses and require a course outline
for review and approval by the graduate committee. 597 courses must be courses that do not
exist on the course master file, but something you would like to possibly add as a regular
course offering sometime in the future. The outline should include information about any
course requirements, exams, etc., that may be required for the course, as well as
  prerequisites.

                                             -14-
A course outline for a CH E 597 should be submitted to Sue Ellen Bainbridge. She will
forward the outline to the graduate committee for review. After the committee has reviewed
the outline and approval is granted, she will request, from the University Faculty Senate
office, that a letter character be assigned to the course number (ex. 597). After the course is
assigned the letter and approved by the Senate Office overall, Sue Ellen will contact you
about scheduling an offering time for the course.

Fenske Laboratory Evacuations

Any time you hear the alarm, you are REQUIRED to leave the building. In order to minimize
confusion during an emergency, all personnel from Fenske Laboratory must report to one central
area outside of the building perimeter.

That staging area is the First Floor Lobby of Eisenhower Auditorium, all entrances from
Shortlidge Road.

All personnel should use the closest exit to leave the laboratory in an orderly fashion and report
to the staging leaders (Laurinda Benner and Sandra Brown) at the staging area.
