The work chosen to show at the Fisch Haus documents several regions of Afghanistan, focusing on the Kabul and Balkh provinces. In a special addition to the event, there will be an accompanying artist's talk prior to the opening, from 5:30-7 pm, where Gloriann will chat with Wichita's own Dr. Schuyler Jones, generally acknowledged to be the original Indiana Jones. Both will recount some of their extraordinary adventures, in an informal storytelling format.

Markets~We Will Prosper Again. Parents

The Markets

A quick note—for those of you over the wonderful age of 70 ½, the IRS is giving you a break this year… you don’t need to take a Required Minimum Distribution unless you wish to do so. So far, it is only for this year and of course, you may take it if you wish. If you are taking it automatically and wish it stopped, be sure to let us know. We have seen many turbulent markets and know how hard it is to avoid getting caught up in the media hype. Let’s reflect on some other challenging moments. How about these?  The Nifty Fifty in the early 1970s?  The first and second oil shocks in the 1970s?  The savings and loan crisis in the late 1980s?  The tech bubble, which ended in March 2000? Each of these experiences was different, but there was a common lesson in all of them. In each case, investors and our financial system survived. We will survive this moment as well. During periods of market turbulence, the same question tantalizes us: When will this end? No one can predict market turns with certainty. I am convinced that in time, we will get through the present financial problems, and our nation and investors will prosper again. When the markets are in turmoil, we think you, our clients, turn to us not to do something different, but to do what we have always done: Pay attention to risk, rely on a thorough and global research effort and invest for the long term. You know how it can be when people start talking about their new baby or toddler. “Oh Timmy, he is just the smartest tot to ever come down the pike.” “Oh Timmy, he is just the best behaved kid in the world.” “That Timmy he eats with a spoon!” You sit there quietly. You don’t want to be rude so you nod and smile and chuckle. They (those naive parents) think you are nodding, smiling and chuckling because, “Darn it, that Timmy he is the BEST, SMARTEST, CUTEST, MOST talented kid to ever zoom from the womb.” In truth you are nodding, smiling and chuckling because they in for a surprise! They are blinded profusely by the perceived greatness of their mutual creation. God has a plan. He does this to wean them just a bit from their wonderful creation.  It will have them scratching their heads in bewilderment, confusion at what has happened to tilt their universe ever so slightly.  It isn’t that no one hasn’t told them this would happen but they hoped to avoid it it. Timmy is still that BEST, SMARTEST, CUTEST AND MOST talented spoon wielding kid ever, but something oh something has happened to them.  They have changed! They still feel the same, but they are no longer as smart as they used to be, and for some reason little Timmy isn’t keen for the kisses and hugs and would like to be left alone for awhile (this means about 10 years or until the age of 25 whichever comes first). It is all very strange indeed. Just remember! Mother Nature is providential – she gives us twelve years to develop a love for our children before turning them into teenagers!
