Only a few days left to vote for
Canada’s Great Places!
Ottawa, ON (February 27, 2012) – The second Great Places in Canada
competition is drawing to a close as contenders scramble for support before
voting officially ends at midnight this Wednesday.
This year 90 locations across Canada have been nominated in the Great Streets,
Great Neighbourhoods and Great Public Spaces categories. In all, more than
187,000 votes have been cast – more than double last year’s number – as the
various communities vie to claim top spot.
“It’s really exciting to watch how the numbers change each day as communities
rally behind their nomination and residents become engaged in getting out the
vote,” says Andrea Gabor, President of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
which hosts the competition.
“There are a number of very tight races,” Gabor adds. “We’ve seen communities
make up flyers to promote their favourite locations, start Facebook and Twitter
campaigns, and really go above and beyond. It shows just how proud Canadians
are of the many great places in this country.”
With only three days left, make sure you have a say in deciding which locations
will be named Canada’s Great Places. Vote at www.GreatPlacesInCanada.com.
