New Employee Checklist
Welcome to Northern Arizona University! Use this checklist to guide you through your first few days of employment at Northern Arizona University. Complete and print employment paperwork at http://hr.nau.edu/apps/docwizard/. By law, the employment paperwork listed below must be turned in to Human Resources on or before your third day of work at Northern Arizona University. Complete Sexual Harassment Prevention Training within your first 30-days of employment at NAU. The online training can be found at http://www.newmedialearning.com/psh/narizonau/. A DVD is available for check out from Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity 523-3312 or Human Resources 523-6137. Register for New Employee Orientation at http://hr.nau.edu/m/content/view/922/600/. New Employee Orientation is a half-day program that covers information on: University mission, goals and values Employee resources and services Important policy information Safe Working and Learning Environment Policy Parking on Campus NAU ID Card Payroll NAU email accounts ‘Perks’ for NAU employees
Register for Benefits Orientation at http://hr.nau.edu/m/content/view/922/600/. At the two-hour Benefits Orientation you will learn all the options available to you for medical, dental and retirement coverage. HR Benefits Specialists will be able to answer questions and assist you in completing benefits enrollment forms. A benefit packet will be mailed to you via your supervisor and includes benefit plan details and enrollment forms. Please bring this packet with you to the Benefits Orientation. If you have not received your packet prior to the Benefits Orientation, packets will be available at the session.
Submit completed benefits paperwork to Human Resources prior to your 31 day grace period (31 days from hire date). At New Employee Orientation please turn in the following: Employee Acknowledgement Form Within your 31 day grace period please complete the following online: Benefits Election Enrollment Retirement enrollment (if in the Optional Retirement Plan – ORP) Within your 31 day grace period please turn in the following to Human Resources: Creditable Coverage Disclosure Information form (only if electing Blue Cross Blue Shield) Retirement System Enrollment forms (if in the Arizona State Retirement System – ASRS) The following form is optional and turned in to Human Resources only if electing flexible spending: ASI Enrollment Agreement Obtain your vehicle permit to park on campus. Visit Parking Services (Bldg 91) to register your vehicle and get a parking permit. As confirmation of employment please bring your NAU Card. If you have not yet gotten your card, you can be issued a one-time new employee temporary parking permit for two weeks. Obtain your e-mail account. Verify that your name and job information have been published in the NAU online directory at the NAU home page (www.nau.edu). If they have been published call the Information Technology Services (ITS) Solution Center at 523-1511 to obtain your computer user name and password. If your information has not yet been published, please check back after a couple of days. Meet with your supervisor. Learn more about your department’s priorities and how you play a role in achieving those objectives. Meet with appropriate departmental representative for keys, building information, and other administrative policies that relate specifically to your job. The Orientation Guide for New Employees will help you and your supervisor to cover the important items you need to know.
