   Ba8Al14Si31 was prepared by direct
  reaction of the elements, and shows
  a maximum zT is 0.34 at 1150 K.
  This is the first evidence that light
  element containing clathrates may
  provide significant zT’s for high
  temperature thermoelectric
  applications such as power
  generation.1 These materials will
  have applications in the
  transportation industry.
