MICHIGAN ACTION FOR HEALTHY KIDS HEALTHY SCHOOL ACTION TOOL TRAINER Application Overview
This position is being offered through the Michigan Action for Healthy Kids (MAFHK) Coalition. The purpose of this position is to become a Healthy School Action Tool (HSAT) Trainer who will hold regional trainings and provide technical assistance for 50 Michigan school and community leaders to become HSAT Facilitators. These Facilitators will work directly with Michigan schools to help form Coordinated School Health Teams, complete the HSAT, develop an HSAT action plan, and encourage implementation of the action plan to help create elements of a healthy school environment where students and staff have the opportunity to be exposed to and participate in healthy eating and physical activity. For more detailed information on position expectations and compensation see page 5 of this application. Nutrition and physical activity habits are established early in life. We know that healthy students are more prepared to learn, have fewer behavioral problems in the classroom, and show greater improvements on test scores than kids who are not. Having a healthy school environment is one way to teach kids good habits and provide them with the skills necessary to practice these behaviors for a lifetime.

MICHIGAN ACTION FOR HEALTHY KIDS HEALTHY SCHOOL ACTION TOOL TRAINER Scope of Work PURPOSE
Healthy School Action Tool (HSAT) Trainers will hold regional trainings for school and community leaders to become HSAT Facilitators. Trainers are needed for each of the Michigan Action For Healthy Kids (MAFHK) regions.
Must be able to perform the following expectations during regular business hours when necessary. Attend a one-day training on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at United Dairy Industry of Michigan, 2163 Jolly Road, Okemos, MI 48864. Travel compensation will be provided. Market and hold a minimum of 3 trainings at multiple sites within the region before March 1, 2006 that meet training objectives, approximately 4 to 6 hours each in length. Train a total of 50 Facilitators by March 2006. Determine training locations and dates/time by October 14, 2005 so they can be published on a MAFHK marketing flyer. Provide technical assistance (on facilitation, HSAT process, HSAT resources, HSAT action plan and general problem solving) to 50 HSAT Facilitators estimated at approximately 120 hours over 60 weeks. Provide HSAT facilitation and technical assistance to one school with the region you represent if you have not already facilitated HSAT with a school. Submit reports to MAFHK on a regularly scheduled basis. For this position you will be entering into a memorandum of understanding with United Dairy Industry of Michigan on behalf of MAFHK.
Follow the training plan (agenda, slides, activities etc.) provided. Training location must have internet access for online activities. Trainers must use a laptop and LCD projector for all trainings. Provide all training attendees with a binder of training materials. Provide one healthy meal and beverages to all training attendees.
16 months, September 2005 – December 2006
$6,000 total compensation to cover approximately: o $3,400 Binder of training materials, travel to training sites, room rental if needed, miscellaneous supplies, healthy meal and beverages o $2,600 Stipend to cover training time, technical assistance to Facilitators, and HSAT facilitation for one school
