TITLE OF REPORT: Choosing Health- Making healthy choices easier
DIRECTOR RESPONSIBLE: Ruth Barnes/Jackie Chin SUMMARY: This is an executive summary of Choosing Health. It outlines a new public health approach underpinned by the following principles: Informed choice, personalisation and working together. The overarching priorities are: Reducing the number of people who smoke; Reducing obesity and improving diet and nutrition; Increasing exercise; Encouraging sensible drinking; Improving sexual health; Improving mental health; The White Paper looks to respect the freedom of individual choice and recognises the realities of the impact of the consumer society on those choices.

INVOLVEMENT OF PARTNER ORGANISATIONS AND THE PUBLIC: National and local consultation during 2004. RECOMMENDATIONS: The Board is invited to discuss and consider the implications for the PCT. The Board is also invited to propose services that it would wish to commission for 2005/6 to support the implementation of the following priorities: Reducing the number of people who smoke; Reducing obesity and improving diet and nutrition; Increasing exercise; Encouraging sensible drinking; Improving sexual health; Improving mental health.
