PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

What is the Link Balancer?
   Aggregates Internet connection links
   Automated failover
   Bandwidth management
 Quality of Service (QoS) for Internet applications
   Built-in Firewall
   Site-to-site VPN

Qualifying questions
  1. Do you want to balance Application servers or Internet connections?
  2. How many Internet links do you want to aggregate?
  3. What is the expected throughput?
  4. Are you an ISP?
  5. Are you looking to replace your existing firewall?
          a. If customer says “No”
                  i. Respond: “The Barracuda Link Balancer can be deployed transparently in
front of existing firewalls with minimal network changes.”
  6. What are you looking to accomplish with the Barracuda Link Balancer?
          a. If customer says: “Failover and link load balancing”
Respond: “The Barracuda Link Balancer can balance up to six links and
provide transparent failover. It provides link balancing and failover for
                     both inbound and outbound traffic.”
          b. If customer says: “Aggregate bandwidth”
Respond: “In addition to failover and link load balancing, the Barracuda
Link Balancer provides QoS and other policy definition mechanisms that
allow you to aggregate and intelligently manage your available Internet
                     bandwidth”
          c. If customer says: “Link balancing and security”
Respond: “The Barracuda Link Balancer also includes a built-in firewall
that be used to enforce NAT, Port Forwarding or ACL rules.”
  7. Are you looking for failover capabilities?

DEMO SCRIPT

1. BASIC->Status: This provides a snapshot of the traffic flowing through a Barracuda Link
Balancer.

 The upper left hand corner shows you the status of your Internet WAN links and the
amount of traffic. For active links, the horizontal bar will display the current utilization of
the link in kb/sec. Here, you can see that we have three available links, two of which are
connected to a DSL and cable connection. The DSL link has ____ used of an available
____ and the cable link has ____ used of an available _____

 The rest of the page provides detailed graphs that allow you to monitor
incoming/outgoing traffic and bandwidth for each of your WAN interfaces.

[Transition] Unlike BGP or bonding mechanisms that require dedicated hardware at both ends
or ISP support, deploying the Barracuda Link Balancer is really simple.

2. BASIC->Links: The links page allows you to configure and monitor the WAN Internet links.

 Each link is assigned a valid IP address, gateway and DNS settings. You can also
specify if the link should be a primary, secondary or a private link. Backup links will be
used only if the primary links are down or at 80% capacity. Private links are used
exclusively for QoS rules or for Virtual Private Networks. They will not be used for default
          load balancing or failover.

 You can specify additional IP addresses for any publicly available machines that you
may be hosting behind the Barracuda Link Balancer.

 You can also configure the methods the Barracuda Link Balancer will use to check for
the health of Internet Links. Available options are Ping, HTTP, DNS and TCP Port
checking. The Barracuda Link Balancer continually monitors the WAN links through
these methods and transparently fails-over when it detects a defective link.

[Transition] Once the Links are configured, you can optimize their usage through policies.

3. SERICES->Bandwidth Management: QoS rules enable you to assign bandwidth priority to
different applications and route applications through specific links for precise bandwidth
management.

For example, you can use the cable connection to route your custom eCommerce application
and use the slower DSL connection for non-critical standard applications like FTP. You can
further refine QoS rules by specifying client (source) or host (destination) IP address to be
routed through specific links at specified bandwidth priorities. Here, you see that traffic from the
SSH machine is routed with low priority through the slower DSL link.

4. SERVICES->Authoritative DNS: The Barracuda Link Balancer can also provide fail-over and
link load balancing for inbound traffic by acting as an authoritative DNS server. Inbound traffic to
host machines can be balanced across multiple links without the overhead of using specialized
routers, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) or additional ISP support. Configuration is as simple as
assigning each host a different Internet IP address for each Internet link that can be used to
reach it. The Barracuda Link Balancer can then distribute inbound traffic across multiple Internet
links to the host by returning the IP address of the most appropriate Internet link when
responding to DNS queries.

Barracuda Link Balancer Demo Guide

As you can see, multiple servers are hosted behind the link balancer (SSL VPN, Web Filter,
www.barracudalabs.com) in the barracudalabs.com domain. Each Web server can be reached
through either of the 2 available WAN links, wan1 or wan 2, as specified in the DNS A records.

5. SERVICES->VPN: The Barracuda Link Balancer can create secure site-to-site VPN tunnels
with other Barracuda Link Balancers or any IPsec enabled device. For example, users in a the
Campbell office can securely access services and content from the Michigan office over the
Internet by enabling a site-to-site VPN between Barracuda Link Balancers at each location. The
Barracuda Link Balancer also provides VPN failover through a backup VPN link. VPN links use
256 AES encryption for the highest level of security.

[Transition] The Barracuda Link Balancer optionally provides traditional firewall functionality
that allows you to replace your existing firewall with a single device for perimeter security and
Internet link management. (Alternately, it can be deployed transparently in conjunction with your
existing firewall, with minimal network changes.)

6. FIREWALL->NAT: Network address translation rules can be setup to for traffic on external
IP addresses and ports to corresponding internal IP addresses. NAT rules work in both
directions. For example we have a NAT rule to map the external IP of the corporate VPN server
to its internal IP.

7. FIREWALL ->Inbound and Outbound: By default, as a firewall, the Barracuda Link
Balancer will allow all outbound traffic and block all inbound traffic between your network and
the Internet. You can create outbound and inbound rules to selectively create exceptions to this
for specific IP addresses, ports and applications. For example, you can see here an inbound
rule to allow inbound traffic from the corporate Web site.

[Transition] In addition to managing links and bandwidth optimization, the Barracuda Link
Balancer makes it easy to monitor if the device is performing as expected.

8. LOGS->Event Logs: The event log keeps track of system events in the Barracuda Link
Balancer. This includes link status, DHCP server changes, DNS server changes or VPN tunnel
changes.

9. LOGS->Firewall Logs: Firewall Logs keep track of traffic processed by the firewall.

10. LOGS->VPN Log: This can be used to monitor the status and activity on any configured
site-to-site VPN connections.

11. ADVANCED->High Availability: A pair of Barracuda Link Balancers can be deployed as an
active-passive cluster for high availability. If the active system fails, the passive system will
transparently take over with no connectivity disruption.

[Optional]

11. SERVICES->DHCP Server: The Barracuda Link Balancer also provides DHCP services to
manage the assignment of IP addresses to clients in your network. You can also bind IP
addresses to MAC addresses for static assignments.
