Description: Choose Ohio First scholarships are student-centered awards from the State of Ohio. The scholarships offered through this Kent State University COFS Program are for students to use to attend Kent State University in order to pursue degrees in biotechnology and the biomedical sciences other than the clinical professions. Students can major in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Biological Chemistry or Physics (Biological Sciences Option). Eligibility: Scholarship awards are available to Kent State University full-time students; and can be made to incoming freshmen, transfer students or current KSU students. Incoming Kent Campus freshman students must submit a complete application for admission to the Kent Campus (application, fee, test scores and high school transcript). Minimum GPA of 3.0. Transfer students with a minimum college cumulative GPA of 3.0 from Cuyahoga County, Lakeland County, Lorain County or Stark State community colleges are also eligible. Students must submit a complete admissions application by November 14th for consideration for spring semester and enroll full-time. Kent State University is a diverse educational community. Students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Application Process: Selections for the scholarships will be made on the basis of: choice of major; interest in biotechnology or biomedical sciences; academic credentials and potential; motivation to succeed; and financial need. The application includes the student’s academic record, the contact information for at least two references, a current FAFSA and a one page essay in which the student discusses their interest in the sciences, their educational plans and their aspirations for a biomedical/biotech career.
