CPS Child Protective Services The designation for most public state or local agencies responsible for investigating reports of child abuse and
Child Protection Services neglect. The CPS response begins with the assessment of reports of child abuse and neglect. If it is determined
that the child is at risk of or has been abused or neglected, then CPS should ensure that services and supports
are provided to the child and his/her family by the public child protection agency and the community.

FC Foster Care Generally means out of home placement of children for reasons of abuse and neglect or delinquency.
More specifically, means placement in family settings as opposed to residential settings, but is
sometimes used for any out-of-home placement. While serving this population under Medicaid is a
state option, Colorado statute requires that health care services be provided to this group.
