“Placing Young People at the Forefront of Change and Development” Job Description – Institutional Donor Relationships Manager Post Title Location Line Manager Context SPW International Institutional Donor Relationships Manager London SPW International Fundraising Director Students Partnership Worldwide (SPW), a youth-led international development agency currently working in Africa and South Asia, has doubled the size of its operations and reach of its programs in the past three years. SPW’s innovative youth-led development model has been repeatedly cited as a model of best practice by the World Bank, UNICEF, UNAIDS and others, and SPW was the recipient of the 2007 STARS Impact Award for Education. SPW anticipates growth in existing country programmes as well as expansion to new countries over the next three years as part of the SPW Global Strategic Framework. To support this expansion, SPW is expanding the size of its Fundraising and Partnerships Unit. As part of this expansion, SPW is creating the new post of Institutional Donors Relationship Manager. SPW has been growing the number of bi-lateral government (e.g., DFID, IrishAid, etc.), multi-lateral aid agency (e.g., UNFPA, EU, etc.), and trust donors and partners (“institutional donors”) and the income received from these supporters for the past few years. With both existing and new institutional donors, SPW has identified significant potential to expand in this area. The Institutional Donors Relationship Manager, working as part of the SPW International Fundraising & Partnerships Team, will lead this expansion through planning and management of relationships with SPW’s existing institutional donors and strategies to secure new institutional donor relationships in the UK, US, Australia and Europe. Skills and Qualifications Personal Qualities Graduate-level Degree or equivalent work experience At least two years experience raising funds from large trusts and (bilateral and multilateral) partners Successful track record in initiating, cultivating and securing support from: large trusts and foundations, multilateral and bilateral donor agencies. Experience in the international development sector preferable Experience of developing and implementing fundraising strategies Ability to establish, plan, monitor and manage open, productive and professional relationships with a wide range of individuals representing trust and institutional donors Ability to develop and manage independent action plans Demonstrated ability to lead and finalise large scale, strategic funding proposals and reports, coordinating input from a variety of sources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, cross-cultural experience preferable. Passionate about the role of young people in international development; desire to be part of a rapidly growing organization; excellent inter-personal, presentation and writing skills; ability to manage and develop multiple objectives and tasks, calm under pressure; creative and self-motivated; sense of humor, strong work ethic; ability to create excitement around SPW’s programmes and goals, and get others to support the organisation; desire to improve skills in resource mobilisation in the context of international development. The SPW Institutional Donors Relationship Manager will implement the Bilateral, Multilateral, Partner INGO, and Trusts & Foundations revenue streams of the SPW International Fundraising Strategy. The Institutional Donors Relationship Manager will ensure that income targets for these revenue streams are being met for SPW International and country offices. Specific responsibilities will include: Fundraising Strategy Implementation Securing Investment in SPW’s Programmes and Operations Donor Relationship Management Planning and Strategy Development Fundraising & Partnerships Director International Country Support Manager Corporate & Individuals Fundraising Manager International Finance Director International Finance Manager Main Duties Key Relationships Time: 10% Duties Strategy Development and Implementation Working with the FR&P Director and the rest of the FR&P Unit, the Institutional Donors Relationship Manager has the following responsibilities: Development and implementation of annual operational plans for the Bilateral, Multilateral, and Trusts & Foundations revenue streams of the SPW International Fundraising Strategy. Monitoring and updating the annual operational plans for the Bilateral, Multilateral, Partner INGO, and Trusts & Foundations revenue streams through monthly review and 6-monthly reforecasts. Support the International Country Programme FR&P Manager and country offices on developing and implementing their own plans for communicating with and managing relationships with institutional donors based in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia as needed Produce quarterly FR&P reports for review by the FR&P Director in areas of lead responsibility. Securing Investment in SPW’s Programmes and Operations SPW has established a wide range of relationships with bi and multilateral funders, and trusts and foundations, providing financial investment in SPW’s programmes and operations. The Institutional Donor Relationships Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for institutional donor revenue streams in line with the SPW International FR&P Strategy. Specific responsibilities include: Identifying an annual and quarterly priorities and targets for institutional donor revenue streams with the FR&P Director. Prospect research to identify appropriate institutional donors for SPW to approach/apply to for funding (including strategic mapping against donor priorities) Conceptualize, develop and write concept letters, proposals and funding presentations for submission to potential institutional donors, in dialogue with the Country Programme Fundraising Manager Establish and maintain regular communications with current and potential institutional donors leading to secured funding commitments and successful relationships Maintain and update contact and communication records in the International FR&P database Serve as an exemplary role model and public spokesperson for SPW’s youth-led mission, values and programs to all internal and external stakeholders. As part of leading the effort to initiate and develop institutional donor relationships on behalf of SPW, the Institutional Donors Relationship Manager will work with the Country Programme Support Manager to support SPW Country Offices in Africa and South Asia to access and communicate with institutional donors in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia, specifically: Assisting Country Offices in writing and submitting proposals Contributing to SPW International capacity building support to country offices, including conducting overseas visits when appropriate to assist with in-country fundraising efforts, evaluate FR systems and build in-country FR capacity Serve as the lead contact for UK/Europe/USA/Australia-based institutional donor queries and communication Time: 60% Duties Time: 25% Duties Donor Relationship Management SPW International has more than 50 active relationships with institutional donors under management. With current institutional donors, SPW is seeking to improve communications, retain and expand current relationships and income. The Institutional Donors Coordinator will be responsible for leading the planning and implementation of an annual plan to ensure that SPW meets all contractual commitments and obligations to institutional of engagement and communications with institutional donors. Specific responsibilities include: Plan and manage relations to retain and increase support from current institutional donors for SPW Country Offices and SPW International Preparation and submission of timely reports, including liaising with SPW country offices and the SPW International Finance and Programme Quality Units as needed Ensuring regular communication to institutional donors, including in person meetings and presentations as needed Maintaining communications and reporting records in the International FR&P database Other Time: 5% Duties Other duties as required, sometimes requiring work on weekends, for which time off in lieu can be taken.
