"The 2012 Washington National Opera Ball, hosted by Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba"
The 2012 Washington National Opera Ball, hosted by Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba Hosted by the Ambassador from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba, and his wife, the 2012 Washington National Opera Ball once again served as one of the most glamorous nights in Washington, D.C. Over the past several years, ambassadors from embassies representing countries such as France, Germany, China, and Russia have hosted the balls, with each event more lavish than the previous one. The UAE embassy continued this tradition of excellence, providing guests with temporary henna tattoos, Middle Eastern music, and traditional mosaic designs. Tents in the plaza featured authentic Middle Eastern food served as diners lounged on rugs and pillows, while the back patio featured a club atmosphere. Attended by such Washington luminaries as Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and former D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, the ball raised more than $1.1 million for the Washington National Opera. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and his wife welcomed the chance to share the UAE’s passion for arts and culture with Washington D.C. “Opera is a truly global art form,” said Al Otaiba, taking pride in being “a part of this important cultural exchange.”
