KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:
PROFESSOR COURTNEY LYDER is an outstanding leader, a senior consultant to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. His research focuses on improving patient safety in hospitals, with a particular emphasis on seniors. Another one of his key interests involves identifying early indicators of tissue damage that could help identify pressure ulcers, before they become a problem. He is in great demand as a consultant, within the nursing home industry. He has published more than 165 books, book chapters, articles and abstracts, and presented more than 500 lectures throughout the U.S. and abroad. He is a specialist in geriatric medicine with major interests in wound management, restraint and falls, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), other dementias and sleep. He is the Medical Director of Aged & Residential Care at Austin Health in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and head of the Wound Clinic at this centre, where he is involved in several research trials of new therapies for wound healing. DR PENNY MARTENS graduated from the University of Colorado in 2002 with her PhD in Chemical Engineering. Her PhD research focused on the development and characterisation of degradable hydrogel networks. In late 2003, Penny moved to the University of New South Wales and began working on improving the biological performance of synthetically based hydrogels. Penny has produced numerous papers and book chapters related to the research results, and has been invited to speak at many international meeting about her research.
