COURSE DESCRIPTION: (from catalog) Principles and application of theory,
construction, fluid flow, and testing of hydraulic components and systems as used on
John Deere equipment. John Deere theory of operation of low pressure and high
pressure system and control circuits functions, testing and repair will be explained,
demonstrated, and practiced.
TYPE OF INSTRUCTION USED IN THIS COURSE: (e.g., lecture, lecture/lab,

EVALUATION DEVICES: Quiz, written and oral reports, demonstrate ability.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: I assume you are here for an education and want to derive
the full benefit from this class. As a result, regular attendance and promptness is
required. Absentees and tardiness will effect your grade.
TESTING POLICY: Written tests each Friday and a final at the end of the
quarter. Hands-on tests where applicable.
HOMEWORK POLICY: If and when homework is given, a review and possible test
will be given to monitor student completion of assignment.
GRADING POLICY: Students will be graded on lab work, tests, homework
Completion, attendance, attitude, and instructor evaluation.
OTHER SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS/INFORMATION: Self study of John Deere
Pathfinder programs is required.
LEARNING OUTCOMES EXPECTED OF STUDENTS AT THE COMPLETION
OF THIS COURSE:
Students will be familiar with basic theory of operation of the hydraulic systems used on
John Deere equipment. Students will be familiar with testing and diagnosing hydraulic
system problems. The students will know how to repair various hydraulic components
with the help of the technical manual. Students will understand how to explain to
customers the proper maintenance procedures on hydraulic systems.
