I. Project Information

Provide an overview of your project. Include any and all information required to fully describe your project
proposal to someone for the first time. Refer to the application guidelines (SECTION6) for the Areas of
Assessment. In this section you should address your project's relationship to current Contemporary Visual Art
practice, its merit, presentation and originality and its feasibility. Your description should articulate what you plan
to do and how you plan to do it. Use only the space provided in this form to describe your project.

Provide an overview of the mentorship/community-based arts model you will be practicing in the development of
your Nuit Blanche project. Who will be mentoring/facilitating art-making? How long will the program last? What
opportunities will be provided for young and/or amateur artists to develop their art practice? What are the goals

Every application to the Community Engagement Projects program must have a professional artist and/or

Applicants are responsible for securing their own venue. You MUST contact a venue before listing them on this
application (except in the case of our Venue Pilot Project outlined below). If your project is accepted you will be
required to supply us with a copy of your venue agreement (unless the venue is also the applicant). Projects
that use public space such as a park or road are responsible for securing their own permits.

Venue/Artist Pairing – Pilot Project
Traditionally applicants are responsible for securing their own venue, however for the 2013 event we are a
launching a pilot program for independent artists interested in proposing specific projects to some of Nuit
Blanche's most popular venues.
For 2013 the following venues have agreed to be a part of the pilot program:

Bata Shoe Museum
Campbell House Museum
Royal Bank Plaza, South Lobby
The Annex WreckRoom
The Courtyard of MOCCA
The Stables of Casa Loma
Independent artists and artist collectives are invited to create proposals specifically for these venues. Please
DO NOT contact the venue before you submit your proposal. If you are interested in submitting a proposal for a
specific venue, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Each venue has provided us with specifications,
and photographs to assist with your proposal.
Proposals will be assessed first by the Artistic Advisory Committee; only projects accepted by the Committee
will be forwarded to the venue for selection. In the event that your proposal is selected by the Artistic Advisory
Committee but not by your preferred venue, you will be given the opportunity to find another venue to ensure
your continued participation in the event.

Independent Projects are solely responsible for ALL costs associated with producing their project.
Projects will be assessed on their financial viability. Provide a basic outline of your proposed budget including
expenses and sources of projected revenue (grants, sponsorships, etc.) Please note, your budget should
balance and can include in-kind donations of goods or services. Your budget should include artistic, production,
technical, logistical, safety and security considerations.

Blanche in previous years, your history with the event will be taken into consideration. If applicable, describe

III. Support Material
You can submit a maximum of three supporting documents, plus either five images OR three audio
and/or video files with this application form.
Please ensure that at least one of these is an artist rendering or mock up of your project.
Supporting documents should only be used to submit information not found in the application form.
Examples of unacceptable supporting documents include: artist/curator biographies, budgets, project
descriptions or details.
Examples of acceptable supporting documents include: site layouts, technical or design specifications and
engineer or architectural drawings.
- Supporting Documents must be in .PDF format
- Images must be in .JPEG format, at a maximum resolution of 300 dpi
- Video works must be in .MOV, .MPEG, .WMV or .AVI format
- Audio must be in .MP3 or .WAV format
- If at all possible host audio or video files on web sites such as Vimeo or You Tube and provide those
links in the form below.
Other formats cannot be opened and will not be reviewed.
All files must be named following the model:
[number]_[artist/organization name]_[title of work].jpg
Supplementary material must be sent as an attachment (if submitting via email*) or as digital files on a CD-R or
DVD-R (if submitting via mail). Please list all material being attached in the fields below.

IV. Method of Delivery
The ideal method of delivery is by email, with the application sent to email@example.com.
When sending your email, use the subject line: Independent Project Application – Your Artist/Organization Name.
Your email should contain only the following:
The Application Form
Up to 5 images OR 3 video or audio files
Up to 3 supporting documents (saved as PDFs)
These files must be not be zipped or archived in the email. If it is necessary to send more than one e-mail label each
clearly as below:
