meet the needs of today's society, businesses and communities."
A full-time student in the dietetic internship program, Hogan earned a bache-

last May. Hogan said the $400 scholarship will go toward her student fees for the
internship and graduate program.
Hogan pointed out that at the age of 21 she lost 100 pounds, and it was that
experience that led her to focus her studies on nutrition and work toward becoming a

"I sort of found a whole new me," she said after her dramatic weight loss.
"Having gone through the process, I found that I wanted to help others go through the
same thing. So, that is where my passion comes from."

                           Miller To Coach
                           West LA Football
      He's known For High-
         Scoring Teams
West Los Angeles College has hired Marguet Miller as its new head foot-
ball coach. He replaces Craig Austin, who resigned following a 2-8 season.
Miller comes from Pasadena City College where he was offensive co-rdi-
nator. The 2007 PCC offense led the nation in total yards per game and broke the
Mission Conference record for total offense. In the 20 games that Coach Miller
was the Offensive Coordinator Pasadena averaged 35 points per game and its
quarterback led the state in passing for two consecutive years and was the
nation's leader in 2007.
Prior to Pasadena, Miller worked at Mt. San Antonio College where he
helped their team win the 1997 National Championship as a wide receivers coach
and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure at Mt. SAC he coached three Junior
College All-American wide receivers. He was also the offensive co-ordinator at
East LA College when the school made its first bowl appearance in 26 years dur-
ing the 2000 season, while leading the conference in total offense and points
scored.
"Coach Miller has a proven background of success at the community col-
lege level particularly on the offensive side of the ball,' said West LA Athletic
Director Steve Aggers. "We know that his high powered spread offense will be fun
to play and will enhance our recruiting

In addition to his success on the
field, Coach Miller is an educator who

Against Burbank, the Centaurs scored two runs in the seventh inning to take
a 3-2 lead. But Burbank scored in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score. In the bot-

Kevin Cohen pitched five strong innings for Culver City, allowing one run on
six hits, with four strikeouts and no walks. Adrian Campos also pitched well, allowing
two runs on five hits, with two strikeouts and no walks. Michael Lee took the loss, giv-

fourth, Warren scored five runs to take a 8-7 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Ozaki led off with a walk and stole second, and with
one out Cohen moved Ozaki to third, which was key because it allowed Ozaki to score
on a wild pitch to tie the score 8-8.
Then Cohen led off the sixth with a triple, and on the play the relay throw got Tanner Grant (#5) and Derek Farrar (#7) go up for the block
past the third basemen, allowing Cohen to score to give Culver City a 9-8 lead, and the against Hoover.

two hits while striking out five batters, walking one and hitting one.
Ozaki went 1 for 1, walked three times and scored three runs, while Cohen
went 1 for 2, scored twice, and had an RBI and a triple. Ryan Mulvihill went 2 for 2 and

              Become Starter

West L.A. College baseball coach Bob Grant keeps looking for solutions for
his team's pitching woes, and his latest step will likely be to take his closer and put him
in the starting rotation.
After losing all three games they played last week, the Oilers entered this
week on a seven-game losing streak, as West L.A. continued to struggle on the
mound. The Oilers led in all three games they played last week, but ultimately lost two
games to Bakersfield, 19-6 and 13-5, and to L.A. Pierce, 15-14.
West L.A. was 5-15 overall and 1-10 in the Western State Conference South
Division heading into this week.
The Oilers went into this week having allowed 11 or more runs in nine of their
past 12 games.
"We've had some sickness on our pitching staff, and being a first-year pro-
gram, we're not as deep in that department, and it's catching up with us," Grant said.
"Our starters are doing a pretty decent job, but once we've gotten into the bullpen,
that's when we've really struggled."
Grant said that freshman Kesley Kondo, who has been the team's closer most
of the season, would probably be moved to the starting rotation to help out.

Visit Us On the Web At
"He's done a good job for us as a closer, but right now we can't wait around
for someone to close games," Grant said. "We need to get to the point where we can
hold leads."
Kondo would join former Culver City High star Alex Coons, Andrew Plotkin
and Mike Walsh as the team's main starters.
Against Pierce, Dylan Cohen hit a two-run home run, Ricky Gutierrez hit a solo
home runs and catcher Mark Sunga had three hits and threw our four baserunners
attempting to steal.
But the Oilers blew leads of 4-0, 6-3 and 14-13 against Pierce, which scored
the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
                                                                                              CulverCityObserver.com
"We can't hold leads, and that's what is killing us right now," Grant said. "It's just the
struggles of a new program. We're paying good teams, consistent baseball powers,
and we're competitive but we just don't have the pitching depth at the moment."
                                                                                                          March 20 2008 - March 26 2008 • Culver City Observer • Page 15
