Job Title Media and Communications Manager
Based at Geneva or London
Reports to ICBL-CMC Executive Director
Job Purpose To develop and implement the media and communications strategy
of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines-Cluster Munition
Coalition (ICBL-CMC), in support of advocacy goals and enhancing
the profile of the two campaigns and the Monitor research initiative
Management Staff, consultants, interns and volunteers as required

Duty 1 Responsible for the development and implementation of a global
20% media and communications strategy
In collaboration with staff, develop and oversee implementation of
Standards an innovative and effective annual communication and media

Ensure the ICBL-CMC makes use of all relevant platforms to
clearly communicate its messages to all its partners including
governments, donors, the campaign, international organizations
and the public.
Ensure information and resource databases for both campaigns
are up to date, accessible and user-friendly.
Duty 2 Act as the main point of contact and the liaison between the media,
40% CMC and ICBL
Screen and respond to media requests for the CMC and ICBL.
Proactively sell stories promoting CMC and ICBL messaging,
spokespeople and members.
Draft of all press releases and oversight of all web-related content
Manage global media contact list, maintaining regular contact with
journalists by pitching story ideas in close co-ordination with
Support engagement of the ICBL-CMC membership in media
plans for specific events, in particular international or regional
conferences and national events.
Provide messaging, training and support as required to staff and
campaign members who will be interacting with the media.
Coordinate the compilation of media coverage and website data
pertaining to the CMC, ICBL, Monitor.
30% Responsible for the execution of the ICBL-CMC communications
Standards Coordinate the production of the ICBL-CMC newsletter.
Oversee implementation of digital and social media strategies,
including development of multi-media and other campaign
resources in collaboration with the CMC, ICBL campaign teams,
the policy team and national campaigners.
Oversee and ensure the updating, maintenance and relevance of
both ICBL and CMC websites with support from Campaign
Managers and other staff.
Identify and contribute to the development of training, tools and
materials to facilitate the work of campaigners nationally and
internationally and to keep governments and other partners
informed in conjunction with the ICBL and CMC Campaign
Managers and other staff.
10% Contribute to the effective overall operation and management of
Standards Provide reporting and updates on annual program outputs to the
Executive Director as required for governance and donor
Participate in regular team meetings including preparation of any
documentation as needed
Advise and provide additional support to Senior Management
Team members as required
A minimum of five years experience in organizational communications and national or international
media relations experience, ideally with an international NGO coalition working in human rights or
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Any other language would be an asset.
Strong writing and editing skills and keen attention to detail; ability to produce clear, concise written
materials on tight deadlines for a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with social media and Web 2.0 communication platforms.
Strong computer literacy including experience with website administration systems, databases and
Microsoft Office products.
Excellent and proven communication and interpersonal skills with a wide variety of multi-cultural, multi-
lingual groups and stakeholders.
Experience and aptitude for managing staff and volunteers and understanding of, and commitment to,
relevant human resources procedures and practices
Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks
Proven capacity to work in a self directed manner as well as a demonstrated capacity to work
collaboratively with staff and campaign members.
A demonstrable understanding of and commitment to human rights and/or disarmament issues.
Creative and self-motivated.
Desire and flexibility to travel internationally.
