AP Euro Essay/Project Section AP European History In-class FRQ – Friday October 28, 2011 Below you have been given six possible AP-style free-response questions that relate to material covered in the first four units. On Friday October 28, 2011, you will be presented with two of these questions, and you will be expected to write a well-developed multi-paragraph essay on one of them. In order to prepare you for the rigor of the AP exam, you will be allowed 40 minutes to complete this essay, and your essays will be scored using College Board grading standards. 1. Louis XIV declared his goal was "one king, one law, one faith." Analyze the methods the king used to achieve this objective and discuss the extent to which he was successful. 2. In what ways and to what extent did absolutism affect the power and status of the European nobility in the period 1650 to 1750? Use examples from at least TWO countries. 3. Analyze the influence of the theory of mercantilism on the domestic and foreign policies of France, 1600-1715. 4. Analyze the military, political, and social factors that account for the rise of Prussia between 1640-1786. 5. Compare and contrast two theories of government in the period from 1640- 1780. 6. Describe and analyze the changes in the role of Parliament in English politics between the succession of James I and the Glorious Revolution.
