MULTI-PARTY CLIMATE CHANGE COMMITTEE
The establishment of a Multi-Party Climate Change Committee (the Committee) was announced on 27 September
2010 by the Prime Minister the Hon. Julia Gillard, MP. The Committee will explore options for the implementation of a
carbon price and will help to build consensus on how Australia will tackle the challenge of climate change.
The Committee is starting from the position that a carbon price is a necessary economic reform required to reduce
carbon pollution, to encourage investment in low emissions technologies and complement other measures including
renewable energy and energy efficiency. It is also providing advice on and assisting in building community consensus
for action on climate change.
The Committee will consult, negotiate and report to the Cabinet on agreed options through the Minister for Climate
Change and Energy Efficiency.
It is expected that the Committee will meet monthly until the end of 2011, at which time the ongoing need for the
Committee will be considered.
For further information on the Multi-Party Climate Change Committee and it's membership and for Communiqués on
the monthly meetings, please go to http://www.climatechange.gov.au/en/government/initiatives/multi-party-

This is an initiative of Commonwealth, State and
