In order to help improve our reading levels this year, we will be doing
two types of independent reading: D.E.A.R. and at-home reading logs
D.E.A.R. is an acronym for “Drop Everything and Read.” One of our main goals this year is to help you discover how much
fun reading can be. To help achieve this goal, we will read almost every day for about 10 minutes in our LA Block class. You
must bring a D.E.A.R. book (chapter book) with you to every class. The book you choose is completely up to YOU! This is a
time for reading something you enjoy and really interests YOU!
At-Home Reading Logs:
Each Friday, you will receive an at-home reading log. Your job is to read for at least 20 minutes at least 4-5 times a week.
The more reading you do, the better! Any type of reading is encouraged. So pick up your D.E.A.R. book, a magazine, the
newspaper, or any other type of print and get reading. You are required to have a parent or guardian sign your reading log
each night. These logs are due every Friday.
