Silent Auction: A Creative Business Adventure of the Bloomington Professional Council What is Silent Auction? Silent Auction is a web based auction of items donated by individuals and businesses within the Monroe County community. The auction occurs on-line in November. Anyone in the surrounding community can bid on any item. Who benefits from the proceeds of the Silent Auction? Indiana University has over 2200 professional staff; the Bloomington Professional Council (BPC) represents their interests within the structure of Indiana University. The proceeds are used to support professional development activities of selected individuals through a competitive submission process. The activities supported are outside of the scope of typical department training obligations. What types of materials are donated to Silent Auction? Potential items include jewelry, collector’s memorabilia, books, CD’s, DVDs, local event tickets, photographs (framed or unframed), toys, games, hand-made items, gift certificates, specific services, and other items. Why donate to Silent Auction? There are several reasons to donate:  You will support a good cause  Your donation is tax deductible (receipt furnished upon request)  A picture of the item donated (with the exception of gift certificates) will be posted for the auction  Your name/company can be listed along with the photo. This represents publicity for your company, craft, hobby, etc., if you choose to be identified.  Many people who access the site will be aware of your generous community spirit. How do I donate an item? The Bloomington Professional Council member who has made the initial contact with you can accept the donation and will forward it to the appropriate personnel for the auction. If you have questions, you may contact Teresa Spiegel at the BPC office at 855-7418 or by email at Can I see my item on the inventory for Silent Auction and track the bids? The Silent Auction will begin on Monday, November 10, and end on Friday, November 21. You can access the site at On behalf of the Bloomington Professional Council and the 2200 professional staff employees of Indiana University, we wish to thank you for your interest in participation in this project.
