Dress Code Update: Please email Mr. Armstrong
Please Take Note!
At the beginning of the school year each student was given a Student
Handbook which included much information they need.
Among other things in the handbook, a dress code is included.
Students are expected to comply with both the spirit and details of
the school’s dress code.
Those who fail to conform to the requirements of our dress code
should expect to receive discipline for their noncompliance.
We are presently experiencing problems with some students (particularly
females) practicing a proper application of the dress code. Particularly,
there are issues with low-cut tops/blouses which are too revealing.
Consistent with the written dress code, portions of the chest or back are
not to be exposed. We take this to mean that no portion of the breast
should be visible at any time. Parents should make sure that your child has
clothing for school that does not expose cleavage or any part of the breast.
If the backs of tops or blouses are cut so as to reveal undergarments,
straps, etc., they are not acceptable for school wear.
Present styles of clothing often seem to violate this understanding of
proper attire. It will certainly be necessary for parents to monitor their
child’s clothing choices so as to avoid disciplinary action on the part of the
school. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
A copy of this year’s dress code follows:
DRESS AND APPEARANCE
Everyone at Palmetto Middle is expected to dress and be groomed in
accordance with acceptable standards of cleanliness and good taste.
Students may wear items of clothing that are suitable for the school
environment, appropriate to the sex of the individual, and consistent with
the intent of the dress code. All clothing must be worn properly (example:
overalls must have all straps up and pants must be pulled up to the waist.)
The following items may NOT be worn at school
Bandannas, headscarves, hats, etc.
Mesh or sheer garments
Any item with suggestive/objectionable lettering, pictures or symbols
Skirts, dresses or shorts that do not reach below the fingertips when
the arms are
dropped at the sides (This also applies to the tops of all openings,
slits, splits, etc.)
Blouses, dresses or shirts, which expose areas of stomach, chest, side
or back (Tops
must reach the waist and cover the shoulders. Sleeveless garments
must fit snugly under the arms.)
Excessively form-fitting clothing
Excessively conspicuous body piercings, oral piercings, long/dangling
Long or heavy chains hanging from the clothes, spiked/studded cuffs
and collars, etc.
