San Mateo Scholarship for Local The San Mateo Scholarship for Local Government Studies will be awarded by an external scholarship committee.
Government Studies A critical shortage of professional local government managers is predicted for the next two decades. This is a
result of the eventual retirement of the Baby Boom generation and the smaller labor market in subsequent
generations. In addition, in a world of high-tech and high finance, recruitment for public sector management talent
has become increasingly difficult. Several initiatives at the national and state levels to develop the next generation
of public management personnel are underway. One way to locally address this issue is the establishment of a

with the City of San Mateo after graduating from the San Mateo County Community College District. Also, this
scholarship is structured as an incentive to attend graduate school.
